I have some disturbing news. Today is the last day of the writers contract and negotiations are on the way as we speak. I've been following this issue for the better part of the month and this aren't going anywhere. Today the writers agree to work a couple of days after their contract. The impact of this strike is huge...

Among the things that can happen are:

1) Shows ending prematurely. No more Heroes, Prison Break, House cry.gif

2) No new scripted shows until this issue is resolved. The only thing that we could look forward to is shows like 24 and Lost which I heard is still not even close to finish.

The last strike lasted for 22 weeks. So there were no scripted tv for that time. The network ended up showing reruns. The problem everyone who is a writer have to register with the Writers Guild of America(WGA). The WGA wants profit sharing on online distribution of shows and other media (DVD's etc...) But the tv companies (NBC, CBS, ABC) are not giving in to thier demands. So as a result the writers issues a strike until their demands are met.

I'll keep you guys posted on any new events

Yup. Even the show creator Tim Kring said that his show is dying for the better part of the first couple of months. They finished up to episode 11 (almost)

Yup everything. Is a pretty long list. The good news for scrubs is if the strike does happen. The creator Bill Lawrence will end the show half way and make a DVD movie to end up all the loose ends.

actors can survive not acting for a couple of years. The ones who need to pray is the production company. Without shows to generate their income they will force to close shop. They will lose billions...

There's an article on Variety talking about studio movies that already have their scripts secured in preparation of the strike.

QUOTE
"For now, it's a television strike, not a movie strike. Everybody has done their films for 2008 and part of 2009. It would need a very long strike, six or seven months, to have an impact," said one veteran industry player.

It doesn't matter if they go on strike. I think it's definite the script writers will come back, question is WHEN. Grey's Anatomy for example is already finished up to Ep 11 of the new season and we are at Ep 5 so we can hold-out for SIX weeks. Besides, mid-season replacements? I am waiting for new seasons of Jericho, Cashmere Mafia and One Tree Hill for example. Won't affect me that much.

And rapidshare accounts can still download other stuff. hehe

Yeah... Probably. Just the show wont have a conclusion that all. Most of the shows are will left with gaps. The shows won't continue back if it starts late in the season. The production company executives don't mind if the shows get canned for good. This year has been just a terrible television year financially. The only show that are confirmed to go on is 30 rock since the writers dont care about the strike that much. I think the strike is going to happen. My bet is 16 weeks.

My point is that even with 16 weeks, we can still hold out and when they come back, we'll have the conclusions of TV shows. Prison Break for example, it has already completed the first half of the season and strike or not, Sarrah Connor is poised to take over come January.

Yup. Probably we will or we wont. Well Prison break they are breaking out next week. So consider that is already finshed. Heroes confrim will end the first arc by episode 11 (already finished filming) the rest I am not that sure. That the problem when you have a union everybody don't want to work for the love of the show.

QUOTE
Production may be delayed due to a writer's strike. The WGA is fighting for content residuals on DVD's and new media(ie streaming content, webisodes). The studios haven't been budging and the WGA recently voted with over 90% of members in favour of a strike. A strike would affect 24 harder than other shows because production started on September 10th, leaving no time to bank scripts before its scheduled premiere on January 13th, 2007. Maureen Ryan recently spoke to FOX and 24 executive producer David Fury, about the likelihood of 24 being delayed if a strike occurs. FOX is playing it safe, simply saying that, "We're hoping that all parties can come to an agreement and a strike can be averted. However, in the event one does occur, we're prepared."

Added on November 1, 2007, 11:31 pmYea... I just read that Prison Break is going to have a proper ending coz they finish filming until episode 13. So it got a proper ending until it can be picked up again. At least one good news.

Added on November 3, 2007, 9:38 amStrike Confrimed.

All shows are halted. Heroes ending next month.

The TV writters are not quite bothered about their fans no matter what show. The more angry and sad their fans get, the better, as the TV network companies will get pounded on even more.

Want an explantion as to why this is happening?

South Park new season starts at 12th of March sad.gif
The good thing about South Park is that they have a core team of writers which are working on the show since the beginning.
