Hi guys,
I have few questions regarding Paper 3 SPM Biology. For your info, I'll be taking this subject as a private candidate who haven't been in lab at all.
1. How many experiments are there that could come out in Paper 3 ?
2. Are all the experiments fixed, and won't be a new experiment that haven't been done by students ?
3. My fear is the unguided paper 3 (no procedures) where I had to do it alone with no guide, what would be your tips on the experiment ? Do I have to keep constantly study all the experiments that had been taught ?
Thank you.

You're probably better off checking with a tuition centre... this section of the forum is pretty slow... Good luck!

Especially tuition centres with known 'history' of spotting the experiment questions year after year. Usually it's conducted by a teacher that know what type of apparatus are being prepared in their school's lab for this paper. Last time it was my own physics & chemistry teachers, who ran a tuition centre outside - and gives tips for SPM & STPM papers & paper 3 who joins their intensive course. Normal classes before exam season were like 10-20 ppl, these intensive classes were like 200+ ppl one session. At least they 'help' narrow down the possible experiments.

I remembered my SPM time (this was some what, 35 years ago) ... Kasturi was one such centre that everyone flocked to for tips.

Yeah those days, KL students converge on Kasturi. I went there for BM & Sejarah intensive course, and another one centre for the science subjects.

I'm sure Kasturi is still running even until today. I even got money from them back then, as I topped their list of students for the SPM that year (9A1s and A1 for 1119).... and a stupid silver coloured plaque.

Can I check with you, did you do a lot of past year questions until you can spot the trend of which questions are likely to come out?

Actually, my SPM was my favourite exam. I was so seriously looking forward to every paper. I was a nerd, a geek. I did so many past papers because I actually enjoyed them.

Even if intelligence runs in the family, there is no way families can consistently generate straight As students - one of the few possible hypothesis that I came out is that they drilled themselves with past year papers and other exercises. Of course another way is to be in those famous sekolah berasrama penuh This post has been edited by AbbyCom: May 9 2024, 07:05 PM

Just look for IGCSE /A-Level Paper 3 - Practical Paper. Most of the time, I feel would be just simple - put in microscope, or simple to set up. Write observation/inference/explain/draw cell diagram that's all.
