Hi,
As per the subject, is this a common practice? A friend is trying to rent a place in JB and surprisingly enough, all the property agents are asking for agent fees. I do understand there would be fees borne by the owner who is requesting the services of the agent to find a tenant for their place. Usually a month of rent for a year lease, etc.
But never have I heard to a tenant who is finding a place themself via propertyguru, etc. The fee is somewhat like 3/4 of the 1st month rental.

Just curious to know from other owners, tenants or agents here.

Thanks.

Common practice in Penang and Johor to obtain 'kiri-kanan' commission - both from the vendor/landlord and purchaser/tenant.

To sustain re agent lifestyle, some take fees and commissions from everyone e.g vendor, service provider, etc.

I rent in JB before. She didn't ask for agent fees from me. You can try to contact different agents and see. A lot of properties have multiple agents.
