Just finished watching it. Pretty good.
But for our local screening, it seems some scenes being cut.
Quite obvious.
1. At beginning scene when Clark kiss Lois
2. At the ending, seems the scenes from trailer (kissing while afloat in the air) also being cut off

My pet peeves with James Gunn as director is his screwball comedic tones. Hated his GOTG series and his Suicide Squad iteration kinda mid. For better or worse it's like DC movies with Marvel's skin. This time around it's less annoying with the comedy, mind you this movie is 80's cheesy of Christopher Reeves's Superman. The take is returning Man of Steel as the ultimate blue boy scout.

The plot is of no importance, your usual nonsensical comic book storylines. It's the assemble cast that kept things moving with superb Lex Luthor, Clark Kent, Lois Lane and the awesome Mr Terrific. It's kinda All Star Superman rolls into Keith Giffen's 80s Justice League. I like that a bit. Distinctively this came across as palate cleanser to the usual MCU craps.

Not the greatest but definitely not the worst. Just don't expect a godly Superman of the Snyderverse, this is more in tone with the Silver Age comic book aesthetic. Don't get too carry away with sequel baiting ending. Hope it doesn't draw parallel to Mark Grayson in the Amazon show.

Hope this can make bank, really wants that The Authority movie made.

Too bad there was no 3D version shown in Malaysia. Apparently Gunn was happy with the results.

Cinemas should let 3D screenings be at the same price as 2D screenings. People can then buy the glasses at RM5 (the prices they are paying right now) or just reuse their previous ones.

GSC had to wash their 3D glasses. TGV and MBO used the disposable ones.

My spoiler-free honest review. smile.gif

A powerful and heartfelt reboot. This is the "down-to-Earth" Superman movie we've been waiting for.

David Corenswet completely embodies the Man of Steel. He doesn’t just look the part, he is Superman. Whether it’s rescuing civilians, helping rebuild the city or even saving a squirrel (yes, really). Apparently, some test screenings didn’t respond well to that scene, but I’m so glad James Gunn kept it in. It’s moments like that that give this film its heart.

The casting across the board is excellent. Every role feels well thought out, from the leads to the supporting characters. There’s a natural chemistry (and comradery). The film also sets the stage for the new DC Studios universe without feeling overloaded. It introduces just enough to get excited, without falling into the trap of trying to set up ten future films at once.

Props to Nicholas Hoult for this version of Lex Luthor. He seems absolutely obsessed with bringing a bad name to Superman, like there is nothing that can stop him. sweat.gif Felt maniacal (and probably what they were going for).

The final act was epic IMO. It feels earned. There are both mid and post-credits scenes. They’re great, but not essential if you need to leave early.

Pros:

+ David Corenswet completely nails the role - he feels like Superman from start to finish

+ The casting is absolutely spot on, top to bottom

+ Superman saves people - regular people and and it never feels corny

+ The final battle is grand and delivers on all fronts

+ Lovely mid and post-credit scenes for fans (but non-essential)

+ A strong and exciting foundation for the new DCU

Cons:

- The prison sequence felt a little uneven and could have been tighter

- The Green Lantern Corps make an appearance but feel underutilized (probably setting up more later)

- Our local cinema version had some noticeable cuts

This is not a perfect film, but it’s a deeply sincere one. It doesn’t try to be edgy or ironic. It embraces the optimism and legacy of Superman without apology. For longtime fans, it’s a reminder of what made the character special in the first place. For new viewers, it’s a perfect introduction to a hero worth believing in.

I’d rate it 8.5/10

It’s just doing Superman the way he should be done. It feels nostalgic yet modernized.
