(Chongqing 5th Comprehensive Electric)The well-known Chinese game assistant "Fat Cat" previously attempted suicide by jumping off the Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge. His family recently revealed that his girlfriend Tan Zhu allegedly drained 510,000 yuan (approximately 333,859 Malaysian Ringgit) from him over two years. "Fat Cat" could only afford to eat 10 yuan (approximately 6.55 Malaysian Ringgit) takeout meals, eventually jumping off the bridge due to emotional betrayal by his girlfriend. The incident sparked widespread condemnation from netizens, accusing Tan Zhu of exploiting emotions for money. Tan Zhu suddenly appeared in a video on Saturday, admitting to betraying "Fat Cat's" feelings and offering a 90-degree bow apology to the public. However, netizens' anger persisted, continuing to criticize Tan Zhu for disrespecting the deceased by using the incident for personal gain and wearing provocative shorts in the apology video.
The 21-year-old "Fat Cat" lived frugally, spending 510,000 yuan over two years to fulfill Tan Zhu's material desires, ultimately unable to bear his girlfriend's emotional betrayal and taking his life last month. "Fat Cat's" older sister recently released a video, publicly accusing Tan Zhu of toying with her brother's emotions and being excessively greedy for his money.
Upon learning that "Fat Cat" had been eating simple takeout to afford his girlfriend's demands, netizens expressed sympathy and remotely ordered takeout to be delivered to the Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge in mourning while also condemning his girlfriend.
Tan Zhu's apology in provocative shorts draws criticism from netizens
The person claiming to be the central figure in the incident, Tan Zhu, appeared online on Saturday night in a video. In the video, she expressed regret for not cherishing Fat Cat properly, apologized for hurting his sincere feelings, and ended with a 90-degree bow apology.
Recently, Tan Zhu has posted several times online, stating that the online backlash from the incident has severely affected her mental health. She displayed a hospital diagnosis indicating that she had sought psychiatric help three times within half a month and was diagnosed with moderate depression.
She also mentioned that she had returned 137,000 yuan to "Fat Cat's" parents, including the money he had transferred to her before his death and the funds he provided for her to open a store, hoping they would sign a settlement agreement at the police station.
After the apology video was released, netizens became even angrier. They not only questioned whether the woman in the video was truly Tan Zhu, but also heavily criticized her clothing choices. Netizens pointed out that Tan Zhu's facial expressions and body language in the video did not show any sadness or remorse. Furthermore, they found it disrespectful that Tan Zhu wore extremely short denim shorts, a red T-shirt, and white knee-high socks in the video, believing that her dressing in such a provocative manner showed a lack of respect for the deceased.
Following the intense backlash from netizens, Tan Zhu soon released another video, this time wearing a black top and checkered pants.
Some netizens even suspected that the so-called apology was just a ploy to attract online attention and gain more internet traffic.
