I was just wondering.
why are conti cars have so much problems especially after the 5 year mark?
do the manufacturer planned obsolence for just 5 years? How did people in the EU use their car?
Why do conti cars fail so fast?

The material that they used to build the car...cause in their home countries the car is not expected to be driven for more than 5 years. Plastic tubes, caps and etc which is not good in hot countries like us. Also complicated engineering that makes repair and maintenance harder. Same to having tons of electronics and sensors. dogbert_chew liked this post

QUOTE(MegaCanonF @ Apr 30 2024, 12:24 PM) I was just wondering. Normally just lease for 5 years over there. After 5 years least is up, they can just change car for a new lease.why are conti cars have so much problems especially after the 5 year mark? do the manufacturer planned obsolence for just 5 years? How did people in the EU use their car? Also some country, they have a "salary car" as part of their remuneration package. Usually for white collar workers. 5 year lease on a new car. Budget limit depends on the position & rank in the company. This post has been edited by amscouzach57: Apr 30 2024, 08:59 PM MegaCanonF liked this post

To be fair, I've driven a fair number of Conti cars, and yes, ONE in particular was a lemon through and through - and sadly, it was my first Conti and a low spec one:
The W203 peanut eye C200. Built in South Africa. Sold after 13 months of ownership because it spent more time in the workshop than on the road. Nothing major with the engine (that was OK), but the built quality was shit. Plastics creaked, leathers cracked, brakes squealed. We sold it because the built quality wasn't up to our expectations and we swore to ourselves that we would never get low specification entry-level Continental cars again. Either we bought something of a higher spec, or we don't buy at all. My E-class, S-classes, BMW cars and now Porsches have not had the problem repeat itself, touch wood. hot climate and high humidity 4 season countries - only 4 month of extreme heat Malaysia - 12 month of extreme heat and weather, we have very low wind speed this is why chinese cars fail before the 3 year mark. conti cars failed right on the 5th year. Exception is on japanese, because they are perfectionist. koreans, a tad more reliable than conti. MegaCanonF liked this post

I suspect that the Japanese (and Koreans, to a lesser extent) do significant warm weather testing in humid Southeast Asia, while Euro manufacturers typically do most of their warm weather testing in more arid Middle Eastern or South African weather. But then again, JLR has dogwater reliability in every corner of the world, so maybe it’s not entirely accurate. Edit: Also, French cars don’t even need to wait 5 years for problems. Sometimes 5 months enough. This post has been edited by dev/numb: May 1 2024, 09:29 PM hksgmy liked this post
