This coming summer (winter) is my 4th trip there
so is there any changes that happened since?
Haven't been there since 2017

Got my evisa last week and i already book a place near Scarborough beach (Doubleview) for roughly 3 weeks
Already got a car from a friend for us to drive around, not my first time driving there.

1. Is the Friday food market in CBD with the Brazilian BBQ stalls still there, I've been dreaming about it ever since?
2. I know I will be shitted by custom upon arrival but I'm not in the "suspicious" demographic. They only check single Malay man more.
Are they more strict or lenient than before? I was checked for 40 minutes with my phone taken away last time I was there
3. Is there any chance anyone going for a fishing trip? Where to find or advertise for like minded people.
4. Is there any pickle ball court that we can use? Hopefully not as far as Freo
5. Which Telco would you suggest for me to get.
6. Is the Malay nasi campur place near CBD still open?
7. Recommend me an Italian place other than the one we ate previously at Sir James Mitchell.
8. How cold it is in winter? My first time with this season, I usually go there in Feb or Oct.

Thank you in advance

Well, true but I never experienced it personally.
The only time I got racial aggression was in Singapore.
I can pass as a Chinese but he turn aggressive once he found out I was Malaysian.

Perth okay lah, Mat Salleh stranger come to me and chat on the beach, no problem.
Made a few Mat Salleh friend when I was there and we went to Big Day Out together.

I think most of the problem is in Melbourne or Sydney.
My friend got smacked in Mel for being brown.

Sydney I went there, people a bit cold but not racist at all.

I hate running and it is too cold to swim or surf during winter.
I hate putting on a wet suit.

So Pickle ball is the best way I could sweat over there

First time driving? Just that do not bring the driving style here to there even when you are on highway. Read the speed limit and adhere to it ALL THE TIME.

No sir, I'm aware of undercover traffic cops looking for people going above speed limit in schools area.
I saw a guy got pulled near my AirBnB

My rental even got hit by a stupid woman while it was in a parking bay in 2015
I'm too dumb to opted out for insurance and RM550 got deducted out my card after repair

If you are planning of driving anywhere out of city centre or outback perth, please use Telstra for your phone network

anything also can la, but if no network can only make emergency calls

also, if you do plan on doing the outback drive, make sure someone in your group has iphone 14 or newer, can use sattelite to call for help out in the wilderness

Last time KCH-PER-KCH was RM900 via MAS.
I took PER-KUL via MAS in 2016 and paid roughly the same price one way.
No one was boarding the 2am flight, I got the whole middle row to myself

This time I'm using AA,
paid almost RM4.8k for 4 pax

AA is okay for anything less than 5 hours but not more.

i saw one demo in Sydney, never saw anything similar in Perth.

I've been 360 Xray scanned, bomb residue checked but that's fine.
But they took away my phone and asked me to unlocked it in Perth.

Lol, I don't use social media or Whatsapp.
I know first hand that they will check my stuffs so I fill my cameras (i was carrying a bag full of camera gears)
with noob amateur photos to throw them off.
I'm actually there for a one day photo job and took the remaining 2 days surfing.
You actually need a working visa to do a paid job there.
That is why I only fly there for 4 days

If I remember, went for a lunch in CBD, parked at the multi storey garage nearby.

never been outside the city and Freo, the most ulu place I went was only Joondaloop

I dunno, wild animals does not interest me much since I live in Sarawak.
A man was eaten by a croc near my home a few months ago
and last week, I saw some Beruk in front of my lawn.
Snakes and lizard roams freely on the road every morning.

I like the forest though, I'm much more intrigued with the tress and grass.
I can spend hours just hiking through them
The park on top of the hill in Perth is perfect for walking but finding parking there is such a hassle

16 okay lah, can use hoodie and track pants
Does it drop below 5 at night?

I've never experience anything below 15 in Perth.

Night temps rarely drops below 10. Unless you're further out from the CBD.
I lived bout 30 mins east of CBD and nights are usually 7-9.

Day times usually 16-18, unless sunny day. Rare in winter.

is there anything to see eastwards
when we drive down to Albany via Kattaning?
Kangaroo perhaps?

None of them are bad actually.

Oh yeah, I remembered one incident with my host.
She was drunk on wine one night with us in the living room.

She called us "you guys" when ISIS was on the TV.
Haha...

Wildlife sightings very depends on your luck. There were kangaroo sightings at Perth airport and inside the carpark on level 2/3 before.

Btw Albany isn't really doable as a daytrip. Its about 4-5 hours drive 1 way, unsure about how long much via Kattaning. I'd suggest going via 1 route and returning via different route. Can see the greenery change 2-4 times depending on the route you take.

Also you may encounter wildlife on the roads during night and especially at dusk/dawn when the roos are most active. Have had a few close encounters myself and know several people who've hit them. So I'd suggest staying overnight for this safety reason as well, especially if you've not been out of Perth city before.

If you're interested and have the time, check out Valley of the Giants at Denmark

Lucky you haven't encountered them. Just be extra vigilant in CBD and nearby surroundings on Friday/Saturday nights. Especially the train station.

We're planning to drive right before sunrise (I assume it is 7am there?) so we reach Kattaning for early lunch
then continue down to Albany to meet my cousin there and visit her house.

If it's safe to drive straight back at night back to Perth after dinner, we'll reach Perth around midnight.
If not, we'll follow your suggestion and look for a cheap hotel to bunk in.
We just wanna road trip, there's not much to see and do in Albany.
Most of the time, we will be at her home eating and chatting.

Denmark is a far place bro, maybe one day.
I did most of EU pre COVID.
Maybe it is time now to head north.

I've stayed in Northbridge for a week.
It was really fun to be honest, although it was 40C during the day
There's a bar 3 storey high near where we hangout, not far from the museum area
And it was Fringe festival all month

The train station is where?
Is it the one near the shopping district with the underground entrance?
Or is it near where all the junkie is queuing to get methadone from health worker's van

Best to research more on driving at night before making your decision. I've encountered heavy fog with ~20m visibility at night but this was driving up north and during autumn. Unsure if winter can create these conditions.

You're right Albany doesn't have much. Denmark is about 45mins west of Albany, not EU's Denmark. If you're going via Katanning , it'd be the red line. Hence why I suggested Denmark for different route (blue line) back to Perth. Time permitting of course.

When I road trip I tend to stop randomly anywhere I feel nice. Depends what interests you otw. I found a random pink lake nearby Denmark before.

Then you'd know how rowdy Northbridge can be at nights. Seen shit like Aboriginals using cross junction as boxing ring there laugh.gif

Train station is between CBD and Northbridge. The tracks are literally the north border of whole CBD. Yes its almost beside that underground entrance.

thanks, good info.

I'll probably follow your advise.
Seems like the pink lake is worth a scenic drive.
Go follow red line, back follow blue line

I've driven for long hours in NZ and
i think OZ is the same regarding rest stops and petrol stations.

You need to stop at towns because rest stops are non existent, right?
I was in South Island and we have to call the gas guy at 8pm because his station was closed.

yeah, that's the spot where junkies all line up for methadone.
I often use the elevated bridge to cross over to CBD

Yeah, I saw police handcuffed one Abo in Northbridge in front of me.
Its not that bad for me, we used to go to this Churro cafe near the empty space with big screen at night.
And GuzmanyGomez is along that road.

Drove in NZ as well and yes fairly similar in OZ depending on route. I think blue line may have more stops than red but I usually stop in the small towns instead of standalone stops (not many iirc)

Busselton has a famous long jetty if you're interested for a detour.
