NBA is switching official game ball to Wilson brand

Chicago-based Wilson is part of Amer Sports, which was acquired in 2019 by an ownership consortium including ANTA Sports, China’s largest sportswear brand. Wilson also produces the game balls for the Basketball Africa League, which began play this year.

“Certainly the NBA is extremely cognizant of the importance of China to its long-term growth,” said Jon Bogert, the editor and publisher of Sporting Goods Intelligence, a publication that tracks the industry. “ANTA has a huge retail footprint in China. I’d be willing to bet you’ll be seeing a lot of Wilson basketballs over there.”



As part of the deal, Wilson also supplies the basketball for the NBA’s G League and WNBA. Wilson has been the manufacturer of the NCAA tournament basketballs since 2002.

KUALA LUMPUR – Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd presented 19 units of its Levia Residence (condominium) worth RM684,000 each to the Malaysia Women’s basketball team, who were the gold medalists of SEA Games in 2015 and 2017.

A total of 14 players, three coaches and two Malaysia Basketball Association (Maba) staff were the lucky recipients.

Matrix Concepts founder and group executive deputy chairman Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock who witnessed the sale and purchase agreement (SPA) signing ceremony with Maba, said these players have been with the association since the ages of 13 to 14.

“They are nearing the age of retirement and these players, who have served the country, should have a roof over their head,” he said.

The units come equipped with swimming pool, gymnasium and round-the-clock security.

Lee has said there were plans to redevelop Wisma Maba into an apartment called Maba Suites KL.

“The redevelopment of Wisma Maba is timely, due to the ageing condition of the building,” added Lee. – The Vibes, October 3, 2023
