Hello! I am currently looking for house to rent in Malaysia. A few of those I contacted told me that If I rent here, I am responsible for recruiting the next tenant when my contract ends. Which I found weird since if I fulfilled my lease already, I have done my part.
And, isn't securing the rental income the host job for their own sake? Is it normal and legal in Malaysia to charge tenants + hold their deposit hostage over inability to secure the next tenants?

No it's not normal. If there is no such clause in the tenancy agreement, the owner has no right to hold your deposit.

No, very abnormal. They are stingy and don't want to hire agent to find tenants.

No such thing in Malaysia...
They typically cheapskate people... Lazy & don't want the hassle to find another tenant after your tenancy contract over...
