Maybe a location where the contractor is required would help?

You can check the database of certified plumbers at the Suruhanjaya Air website(span.gov.my) and filter it by state or town. Thats how I got contacts to fix piping problems.

Am worried that these "certified" plumbers are not ethical so would prefer recommendations by people who had already engage services of their "go-to" contractors. Safer that way.

SPAN is the proper certifying authority and it just makes sense to check that the recommended plumbers are certified as well.

i briefly went through the page https://www.span.gov.my/article/view/orang-berkelayakan and couldn't find the filter to narrow down the options to either "state" or "town.

i also randomly picked one and did a search, every one that i picked seems to stem from "big" companies that would take on "big projects" rather than "fixing a leak" in a house.

The website changed abit since I saw it last. There used to be a 'find plumber/tukang paip' link but its now changed to permit under services.
Anyway I think the A1 permit is what you are interested in, A2 is the certification for work involving connections to the mains and its harder to obtain.
There are 87 entries for Puchong for A1/A2 permits.
