luckily you are not me.

im a poorfag but i got some inheritance from my mother (house and land) at my kampung. that would be my target for retirement.

tbh, i dont think i can live until 70 or 80 years old. so why need to worry much? just follow the flow and enjoy the ride.

That's impossible.

And i don't plan to touch the epf account until I retire.

I see most people nowadays withdraw left and right, then blame government why still poor.

Withdraw to buy house or renovate means you can't afford that shit bitch. Tone down the lifestyle. You don't need 700k houses and 150k renovations

For millions of retirees, Social Security provides an essential source of income in retirement. In 2020, around 50 million retired workers collected Social Security benefits, according to the Social Security administration.

However, the recent 2022 Social Security Trustees report finds that in 2034, retirees will start receiving a reduced benefit if Congress doesn’t fix funding issues for the social program. In other words, Social Security will exist after 2034, but retirees will only receive 77% of their full benefit starting then.

“No major Social Security legislation has been passed at all since the early 1980s,” says Alicia H. Munnell, Director of the Center of Retirement Research at Boston College. “And so we do have this event coming up that forces Congress either to do something, or most people’s benefits are going to be cut by [nearly] 25%.”

TS, if you are working in Selangor / KL, and you only have 900k at 50, it's really nothing to brag about. Infact, that's on the lower side, no joke. And I'm not using k/ standard by the way, it's real life standard.

This. If withdraw merely to save interest, then that is the biggest mistake ever too. Saving interest is by pumping extra money not using EPF money

I do not understand why people have obsession with the amount in KWSP.

If we are looking at financial security, should we not look at the whole picture instead of just KWSP?

Some people can have low KWSP but having much more money floating around in investments and savings.

I am same with you. When I was young, I didn't think about future. Just stuck at comfort zone.

When 30, I don't have 100k. But now I am nearing 40, got 200k already.

As long you don't withdraw, the interest is alot and will be more than your contribution.

no matter how much u earn, be discipline. avoid all those non-needed spending. live a frugal life, don't envy don't feel provoke. time will tell and heal. EPD is a mandotary thing, saving rm 50 or rm 100 per week or monthly also consider and needed discipline. put down the ego, and start work partime every night or every weekend. don't sleep as always.

when u are reaching almost 30s or 40s or 50s. u will be scared of the shit because if u are no longer to put the food in the table or to take k urself (IF u tak ade family or wife or children). u will live like a beggar.

Why LAE only have that much? How long have you been in the industry?
*
7 years now with my company.

If want more money can... Go work with helicopters or even airlines. Or go work overseas... That's what my fellow batch mates do.

Me I wish to work carefree and relax... So I stay put with my first and only employer.

Sure the salary not as much as others... But I relax. My employer is stable... So I don't have to worry about getting retrenched. I'm the only electrical engineer.... So no need to worry about kpi

don’t give up

you contribute at least 2.5k every month now until 55 without earning interest, you would have almost 900k d then 1m by ~57

*
unfortunately life is not so easy your 5m would be roughly equivalent to 1-2m the value now if you are lucky, if inflation is controllable. if u think epf can hedge. think again. i would say if u want to be safe use s&p500 return as benchmark, u should be comfortably beating inflation.

Depends on your definition of earning. If it is gross pay, u can target a lower % than 80% cos u r no longer paying tax, no need to contribute to epf and no need to save anymore technically.
