Ok noob here. I am nomad and dont want to be tied down with a fibre so I am thinking having a portable wifi is better. My current line subscription is not sufficient also. So I am looking to get a portable wifi device but needed help to understand how it works.

1/ Is it true that any SIM that I put into the device will work as long as it has a data plan?
2/ I saw many plans that has unlimited data but limited hotspot. Eg Unifi UNI5G, it has unlimited data but 150GB for hotspot only. So if using the portable device, it can only use up to 150G?
3/ How do I know if the line is strong at my area?
4/ Any recommendation which telco is the best?
5/ Any recommendation which device is the best?

Thanks in advance.

1. No, the telco can restrict to phones only and don't allow it to be used on other devices
2. Yes
3. Buy prepaid SIM to try
4 and 5. U Mobile has a decent 5G home internet plan, RM68 monthly
There are discussions about devices on that forum thread

Thanks for the advise. About the U mobile, that is a home internet plan, so it's not portable isit? I dont stay in one place for long so I cannot be tied down. Unless it can be used on a portable device and I can carry with me all the time?

Unifi UNI5G postpaid & prepaid can't use with modem router mifi. It become no service, invalid sim or no internet

The best telco / coverage is the same as your telco smartphone
Use smartphone hotspot / usb tethering feature

"home 5g" plans are portable, you can bring that router anywhere

fiber plans are not
