The cone membranes were torn and glued together some years ago. Now I am planning to replace the cones. Instead of like for like, which better cones are available? Mainly for music, pop, sentimental etc.

Pity that Onkyo is no longer there. Otherwise can go there and look for the next better cone models. Now will consider other brands.

Thanks.

P/S Just realised my SKF101 set has single and bidirectional wiring options. Appreciate feedback from friends from real experience and whether it is worth setting it as bi-directional. Only those with good ears and a high-tech system can enjoy a bi-directional setup?

Do you mean getting 2 different frequency speakers, HF & LF?

Can you recommend some for me to study further?

I opened the tower to have a look. The repair tech did a good job. He replaced the membranes, not what I said earlier about gluing the torn parts together. Can't remember which membrane type he used, soft, hard, etc. Think the original Onkyo membranes were paper-type, thus torn easily.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Hope that you can help me. Plan to put my Yamaha sub woofer off the floor, instead of on the floor. I want to get better, clear, and more powerful bass.

I thought the on-the-floor layout would give better bass with the floor vibrating. But now think that instead of wasting that energy to vibrate the floor, it better uses that for the bass sound production. Ha.

yamaha sub with port or no port.
face port to wall & corners for maximum effects
and you need av receiver to adjust a suitable crossover

***  done, at 80 Hz as my tower speakers are 6 inch and can handle down to 35 Hz..

Did some tests today. Lifted the subwoofer off the floor and checked the db and frequency. Cannot see much difference on the db and frequency charts, nor from my ears.

Instead of the subwoofer working against the floor (energy wasted in vibrating the floor), give it more room by lifting it off the floor to do more work in producing the bass.

I have seen some subwoofers installed just below the ceiling. So ....

Since I cant hear any difference, I will leave it on the floor.

normal or inverted selection.

Set to normal as all the speakers are facing the same direction, in phase.

Tried normal and inverted. Maybe my ears and brain are playing tricks on me, think the bass is more noticeable when in inverted. But it doesn't sound right, feel a bit dizzy. Ha.

Thinking of getting SB woofers to replace the ones in my Onkyo tower.

I want clear, sweet pop/sentimental/jazz music.

Thinking of getting either paper or ceramic cones. Appreciate feedback from your experience. Thanks.
