I got an Alldocube 50mini pro nfe. It's a helio g99 processor with acceptable performance. Good screen suitable for reading (what I do mainly) or media (sometime). I read novel mainly so size 8.4 is good as it's like holding the book. But if you into comics then look for non mini version. It come with android 13…and forget about updates

1st one got 350+ 1 star review.

2nd and 3rd reviews say one of the slowest tablet they ever used..

as always, buy cheap buy twice.

edited: forgot to mention i got a galaxy a7 lite as gift, market price 5-600, UI swiping only lag like crap. even my kid also got tired using it.. cannot imagine using anything cheaper...

some users feed back.. slow, screen half is dark, speaker no sound etc

If buy for reading.. I suppose touch screen clear and function is enough probably

I bought 2 cheap tablets of different brands online for relatives' kids during mco, it turns out very limited function, slow n unstable. Other relatives also had same experience. They're now all unsupported.

Kindle is the best though pricey. Look for boox or kobo if don't want Amazon ecosystem. It's very good with black-and-white manga also.

If you read digital comics (coloured) a lot, then Fire tablet is good and cheap, can use Kindle app and read comics on it.

cheap tablet is just bad... especially the screen. (too dim)

suggest to get at least well known brand ie xiaomi, realme, etc.

I know you just want it for reading but it isn't worth it to go for those scam tablets.

I'm not sure about kindle or e-ink, see their features how you wanna upload your books or which platform you use (apple or google or amazon)

Decent, good for just reading. Very minimal lag when switching from YT to browser.

But screen brightness super bright, esp at night on lowest setting

Most of these cheap tablets are rubbish. Reviews are mostly fake. Spec is very very fake also.

If want just for reading, just get a e-ink.reader. battery lasts forever.

Otherwise step up a bit and get a proper tablet... Can get decent China ones in the 500-600 range with a unisoc CPU. Look up teclast, alldocube or the kind. My son has been using the teclast P20HD for quite a few years already...actually I'm surprised it has lasted this long after breaking 2 iPads

my advice is dont buy cheap tablets with lousy screens, screen is very important as u will be looking at it all the time, and especially for reading

i got a cheapo realmi pad mini tablet, its cheap and the screen is low resolution 1024x600 resolution or something, not full HD or 2k screen, the words is blur and i can see many pixels, very hard to use for reading

I don't think kid like e reader, just but a samsung a or amazon fire, it cost less than 400 to 500 during promotion. me use this cheap tablet for series and pdf book ie one with many pictures, diagram, chart, drawing etc. I used to buy china brand many years back but I don't like they have very short period of software update and support.

if android tab, at least get snapdragon 660 level performance and ufs2.0, last time mipad4 no complain to read epub, pdf and .zip manga/hentai, but 1,2 gb punya size will take a bit of time

I am using Kobo Libra 2 for reading books.

If you are just planning to read books, I suggest you get a feel of the smaller one - Clara 2E. The Libra2 can be a little too big and heavy to bring around. If you're planning to read manga, the Clara 2E is a little too small.

Tabs have their own benefits, like being able to read colourful pdf documents and you can even borrow magazines from National Library to read on tabs.

Do note that e-book readers are usually using much slower processor, so there is noticeable lag compared to tabs.

E reader is whole different story. Buy 5 year old also won't feel outdated because the battery is so freaking long lasting. Lose 30% also nvm, from 6 weeks become 4 weeks battery life. Tablet not as long lasting
