Very interesting documentary about a French wire walker named Philippe Petit who manages to high-wire walk between the two World Trade Center towers in New York. A very well done documentary. Must see.

QUOTE(Makakeke @ Jan 4 2009, 11:05 PM) it actually didn't felt like a documentary, it was like a narrated story. very well done film i must say. Now that i think of it, i agree with you. Nevertheless, its still under the Documentary category/genre. But it did feel like a story.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button It was just okay. Not great. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But a well done movie. Good acting by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett and some good scenes and sequences. 7 out of 10
Ping Pong Playa Silly Chinese American movie. About ping pong. Just very silly.Heh. 4 out of 10
Slumdog Millionaire Absolutely incredible. Captivating story. Stunning photography. And incredible acting. Especially by the kids. Also superb music in the backgrounds. Blended in with the mood of the story. Awesome movie. 8.5 out of 10

Milk - 6.5 out of 10
The film started off with too many gay kissing scenes that made me feel too awkward and uncomfortable. The whole film wasn't exactly incredibly interesting, it was just okay. I personally didn't like it. But the acting was amazing from Sean Penn and James Franco.

Seven Pounds - 5 out of 10
I went into the movie with high expectations, only for them to come crashing down. The movie was too boring and too slow. And so depressing. Prolly the most depressing movie I've ever watched. Nothing like Pursuit of Happyness at all. Didn't like this movie one bit. Too bad. Because I like Will Smith a lot.

Funny but a bit overdone. The first one was much better. Steve Martin is still great though.

W. - 5 out of 10
I thought it was an okay movie with and okay performance from Josh Brolin. He didn't really look like Bush. His voice was good and gestures and all were decent. The film skipped a lot though. I didn't know what it wanted to be. Was it supposed to be a biopic? If it was, it was too short and too concise. If it was about his term in office or Iraq, there wasn't enough of that either. It just felt very weird for me. On top of all that, the film had a very tacky feel to it for me.
I suggest people watch it, but don't expect much.

Watchmen - 8.5/10
It.Was.So.Friggin.Goooooood.
The story so deep and detailed and there were such interesting stories about the individual characters and their past. The action scenes were absolutely breath-taking. So similar to 300 with the slow motion fight scenes. Loved it so so so much! I am officially a Zack Snyder fan.
And the film has made me wanna read the graphic novels. Anybody know where I can get my hands on the novels?

Last movie I watched was Knowing. It was seriously daaaaamn good. I give it an 8/10. Below is my review. Or you can check it out at http://doctorpopcorn.blogspot.com/2009/03/knowing.html» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 2009 is turning out to be a good year for movies for me. In my opinion, one of the best movie experiences you can have is when you are misled by all the promotional hoo-haa like posters and trailers, then be completely surprised by what the movie is really all about. I just had this experience watching Alex Proyas’ latest film, Knowing.
The plot is simple enough. John Koestler (Nicolas Cage) is a Professor at MIT whose son is a student at an elementary school that buried a time capsule 50 years earlier. When John get a hold of a piece of paper with a bunch of numbers on it from the time capsule, he discovers the numbers are predictions of when, how many people were killed and where every major disaster has happened since 1959, except for three. He then is determined to make sense of these predictions, try to prevent and dig up the mystery and history behind these predictions, only to uncover unworldly circumstances.
During and immediately after watching this, my mind was blown. I really do regard watching the film as one of the best movie experiences I’ve had. And I’ll tell you why. I went into the movie expecting a typical disaster-type film ala The Day After Tomorrow. The film managed to keep me pretty much in the dark up until 10 minutes before the end. I was completely blown away at the fact that I was watching a Science-fiction film the entire time and I didn’t know it. Call me clue-less or whatever, but it truly gave me incredible viewing pleasure. I walked out of the cinema feeling invigorated in respect to my interest in the Sci-fi genre. I honestly think this was a kick-ass Sci-fi film. Best in years.
The film started out pretty slow, bordering on dull, giving the audience a chance to be introduced to the characters, their relationships as well as the basic plot to the story. For the first quarter or so of the film, it felt like it was stuck in 2nd gear but instantaneously jumped straight to 5th gear with the plane crash scene as seen in the trailer. Knowing has the perfect mix of reaching out to the audience through the personal and sentimental father-son relationship as well as the high octane disaster scenes. Being completely cliche, I felt like I was actually there when the plane crashed and the subway disaster happened. The effects were that good.
Other than having sensational effects, the story was so brilliantly put together it maintained a sense of horror and fright in a movie that was far from scary. Looking deeper into the themes of the movie, it talks about determinism and randomness, referring to the Universe as the former. Making discrete references to fate, Science versus religion, God and heaven; Knowing presents us with fascinating thoughts.
The ending is anything but predictable and typical. It took Proyas a lot of guts to end the film the way he did and I loved it the way it was. It is so rare to see an ending that is so determined and ambitious.
To find out what I’m talking about, just go see the film. I’m not saying you’ll like the film because this film is far from being a film for everyone. Fans of the disaster and Sci-fi genres, I urge you to see the film. Special effects junkies, you too. To sum up the film, I thought it was mind-blowingly good, blowing my mind in more ways than one. I really loved it. So far, almost on par with Watchmen for my movie of the year. But then again, we’re still in March.

QUOTE(Makakeke @ Mar 29 2009, 06:04 PM) That is one film that I need to watch again. I don't think it gets you with the first viewing, unless you've read the book. Well, it didn't work for me the first time. One of my all time favorite films.

Star Trek was AWESOME!
The action scenes were so damn nice. The SFX were flawlessly done and the acting was so good. Zachary Quinto aka Sylar who played Spock was so believable. A really good performance from him. And the rest of the cast was so diverse and interesting. There was even a lot of humor in the movies which was quite unexpected. All in all, its a must watch movie. Even for non-Trekkies. You will be amazed.
My rating is 8.5/10

QUOTE(QuickFire @ May 3 2009, 12:27 PM) where did you watch it? special screening? Yeah, on Friday. It was courtesy of AMBP. Seriously, JJ Abrams did such a bang up job. No wonder Lost is being hailed as one of the greatest Sci-Fi shows ever.

Angels & Demons was a good movie. Not great, but good. It was fun and exciting. A good watch. Highly recommended. Definitely not as good as Star Trek but way better than The Da Vinci Code.
I give it a 7/10

SO dont just expect screams, expect a bit of laughter too. I liked the movie quite a bit. Sam Raimi's career started in this genre and I think he does a great job of it. Love how its different from the rest of the horror genre. I recommend ppl to go see it. It opens in theaters Thursday June 11. I give this movie a rating of 7/10.
