Didn't you mention earlier back you're a Hitchcock fan? never mind. Just messing with you. tongue.gif

I'm a fan of Hitchcock sure! I have watched MOST of his stuff (I think there are 2 or 3 movies of his and also about 4 seasons of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) that I have not seen (not to mention the remakes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents 80s). I don't go around calling myself Hitchcockian the same reason for some people don't go around calling themselves Trekkie! Never much cared for labels.

If you want to mess with me, I'll mess back!!?! tongue.gif

Oh snap! I just re-watched Armageddon. I think it's the finest and the best show I've watched at the current moment in my life.

Bloody oath! It's a f****** good show ever made!! Gahhh! So good!

And the part where the meteors were falling onto New York city.. looked like Transformers. Or rather Transformers looked like that.

Best movie I've ever watched!

Er... Have you tried Deep Impact?

i went to see this movie with little expectations. but i was glad that it didnt disappoint. i'm not sure why the critics are bashing this movie. it had a good and strong story line, the science is grounded and it made a lot of reference to scifi novels, especially space opera.

the movie is greatly claustrophobic. it's psychological with a sense of urgency. it's almost like deadspace (the game), with a slightly different take a quite a good twist at the end.

this film sets quite a good backstory, which i wont be surprised if there's a sequel or even prequel coming. heck, i wish they'd do a game, spawn several novels or perhaps a TV-series. but like i said, the critics are bashing this film just bcoz it was different from what they expected. that in turn will put off people from watching this film, making it a box-office flop. so bye bye sequels.

i give it a 6.5/10

I am assuming you did not watch this in Malaysia...

If you have time to "re-watch" Armageddon, do make some time to watch Deep Impact, which I think has a better storyline and less "America is great"!

*Ahem*

An American Werewolf in London (1981) tongue.gif

Just to prove how "OLD" I'm, going to review another oldie but golden.

Got this on BD recently, and I have to say, it is an improvement over the Region 1 DVD I have. Picture quality MAJOR improvement, will leave that for later.

For the uninitiated, this is THE werewolf movie.

Rick Baker (makeup artist) wowed the movie industry with this one.

For people who loves Dragged Me To Hell (old skool) please take note. This is THE horror/comedy movie for me (IMO, please, no machine guns, they are so violent and messy!! smile.gif )

Those who love more adult theme, there are somethings for you as well (not much, a little bit)

This movie is about 2 young American kids (guys) who are backpacking in the English country side, and had a chance encounter with a vicious furry creature. One was killed and the other was rescued (the Americans). The one who is rescued was sent to a London hospital, where he meets up with a "overly friendly" English nurse. As time progresses, full moon is around the corner...

Going back to the picture quality, having got the dvd version, the smudge on David's face (on the DVD) were CLEARLY claw marks on the BD (kudos, Mr Rick Baker). Grain haters take note, THERE is grain, but I think it adds to the feel of the movie

DTS Master Lossless 5.1 has good directional sounds (when the two American kids were in the English country side, at night, with the full moon), it was clear a "thing" was circling around them, hurdling them to where it wants them to be.

I remember it being a little controversial when it first came out (e.g. too adult, too funny, too horrifying??) and it along with Evil Dead 3 coin the phrase Horror comedy!

My two sens worth!

sweet i wanna get my hands on the hidef version. what's taking them so long? the wolf transformation still got it smile.gif mfreak, what's your thought on paul walker?
*
Wah, fragglerock, you put me on table!!

Okay, let me put it this way. I enjoy Paul Walker's

Joyride
Into the Blue
Below Eight
Running Scared

He is also in duds like

Timeline (which is a shame, I LUV the book. Truth to be told, golden boy of the moment, Gerard Butler is also in it)

So, I'm more into the final product (the movie) rather then a particular actor although there are exceptions.

I will watch anything made by Alfred Hitchcock (Rebecca, Rear Windows, Nototrious) and Joss Wheldon (TV stuff Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse and movie Serenity)

So, I'm more concern about the finished product rather then the individual actors.....

Does this help? tongue.gif

Final Destination (the first one, 2000)

This is a very good example of how HD can be a negative to an actor.

Devon Sawa has very BAD skin and it shows (I think he also has cold sore!!) It was so bad after the the first act, they started to use filter on him, just to make his skin look smoother, it only made him look waxy.

Thank god this movie's got Ali Larter!! smile.gif

The most original Final Destination

Other then Devon Sawa's bad skin, he actually delivered a solid performance.

Interesting how Seann William Scott is bigger then he is??!

Will also take this opportunity to point out that 1 year before he was in The Final Destination, he was in another horror/comedy movie called idle Hands which was release in an inopportune time (after the Columbine incident) and it tank in the box office. I kinda like it, also it has Jessica Alba in it. And I can never get a copy if it on DVD.

Back to Final Destination, what is interesting about this movie is it is basically a "snuff" movie, and people get high on seeing other people bites it in creative situations.

Sound on this BD is good (Dolby TrueHD). When things go boom, they go BOOM.

The novelty of this movie does diminish everytime you view it, and have several sequels doesn't help.

Nevertheless, it is a good horror movie

My two sens.

Pandorum (2009)

Well, what can I say about this movie indeed! (Yeah, yeah, never stopped me b4 tongue.gif)

It is a Dark, Isolated, Lonely, Claustrophobic, Vicious, Tensed, Thrilling, Horrific, Suspenseful movie.

It is nice to see Dennis Quaid in a movie, longer then 5 minutes (e.g. G.I. Joe).

For some odd reason, when I'm watching the movie, I keep thinking that Ben Foster role (Bower) would be better played by Cam Gigandet (Gallo) and vice versa!! (Must be how Ben Foster played The Stranger in 30 Days of Night)

The "baddies" are scary (they eat their dead, though by the end...)

I'll shut up and not spoil it for those of you who have not watched it.

I rate this 8/10.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball

Sony doing a CGI animation??

Well paint me a believe, but their delivered!

I won't say they are as good as Pixar, but their will definitely corner a segment of the market.

Pixar is very good at introducing complex ideas into something that is easy to understand for all age groups whereas Sony's Cloudy may not necessary be for the kiddies, more like the PS3 segment!

This movie is 70 techno colour spectacle, offbeat, VERY funny!

I LOVE how Flint executes his plans but being VERY literal about it!! smile.gif

This is a VERY cookie movie, and some of the stuff they put into this is off the tangent. But that just adds to the charm of the movie!

I give this movie a 8/10

Enjoy!

Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Ah, Quentin Tarantino, what can I say about his works!

ALOT!!?! smile.gif

Am I a die hard Tarantino fan?

NO!

Do I watch his movies?

YES!

What stops me short about calling myself a Tarantino fan is I'm not crazy about the violence in his movie.

I don't mean all movie have to be about sunshine and rainbows (case in point David Cronenberg's A History of Violence), I do think that Tarantino tends to "showoff" the violence in his movie, which I don't appreciate.

Back to Inglourious Basterds, I was dead tired on Thursday evening (after a couple of busy weeks at work), and ended up in The Garden's Signature cinema watching this at 9:55 pm!

And you know what, I found myself engrossed!

Sections I love

In the beginning at the farm, the shift of dominance between Monsieur LaPadite and Col. Hans Landa was so subtle and effective!

The Bar Scene, where the character Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) was nothing BUT narration, but by Jove was it TENSE!!

The "anti" Romeo and Juliet scene in the projection room!

And the very last frame of the movie!!

the rest of the movie.... Tarantino has to learn to be more giving to the audience rather then satisfying all he sees in his mind for his movie (am I making sense??)

I give this 8.9 out of 10

Assassination of a High School President

Watched this last night, and it was a BLOODY waste of time!!

It has a good premise, but unfortunately it SUCKED in the delivery....

Storyline was okay, but the casting, the pacing, the inability to sell the movie to the audience and WHAT THE HECK is Bruce Willis doing in THIS movie!!

Mischa Bison's career isn't going anywhere!!

*Sigh*

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

What an INSULTING name! I bet they wouldn't think of labeling China "little" anymore!!

Ah, the good "old" days of John Carpenter and Kurt Russell.

Hard to imagine nowadays that Kurt Russell was a child star in Disney.

It seems that John and Kurt were in Hong Kong during the early 80s, and watched a local production of a Kung Fu movie (they never revealed which movie, a guess would be something that Shaw Brothers did), and after the movie, they went, "What the HECK did we just see????"

Using that approach, they went back to the States they made Big Trouble in Little China.

Have introduce this movie to a friend and after he watched it, he went "What the HECK did I just see????", so I think John and Kurt achieved what they wanted!! smile.gif

The biggest draw to this movie is definitely Kurt. Him doing his "clueless" heroes, who doesn't do much really!!

The Asian characters are ALL two dimensional and violent (every "Chinese" person knows Kung Fu *Sigh*)

John have absolutely no idea about how to make a martial arts movie, and it shows, so the movie lacking a better term and borrowing from the American, is "chop suei" (chopped into bits).

All in all, you get into the mentality of the Occidentals, on how they view Orientals, and it is NOT flattering!

Again, the biggest draw is Kurt Russell doing his clueless bits!

My two sens!

Sunshine (2007)

Really, good movie.

It depicts the cruelty of space very eloquently.

Although Cillian Murphy is suppose to be the lead, I actually like Chris Evan better.

His character's ability to make very good snap judgment (moral or otherwise) admirable.

A very interesting Sci-Fi drama indeed (Star Wars, this is NOT)

Too bad the last act of the movie...

Some Einstein in Lionsgate GOOFED!!

Crank 2

Got a copy of Crank 2 High Voltage from a reputable forumer yesterday.

Have been looking forward to this for sometime now!

Popped the BD into the DMP-BD60 and got image 4" x 4" appearing on my 42" Plasma TV.....

Was going to yell at someone (PANASONIC MAINLY) and then decided to do a search on Google instead.

Apparently, this BD requires your BD player to have internal memory. So playing on machines like PS3, you would not have any issues, but playing it on Panasonic DMP-BD60, you have issue, because the Panasonic does not have internal memory.

Solution, get a SDHC SD card for the Panasonic DMP-BD60.

SOME EINSTEIN in LIONSGATE forgot to state THAT at the back of the Crank 2 DB. I almost had a heart attack!!!

Sorry if this had been stated on this forum already

2012 - Wah!

Some scenes were right out of The Day After Tomorrow, Perfect Storm, Dante's Peak, James Bond and even Speed (I think there is a kitchen sink in there too.... Air Force One!! smile.gif

This movie got one LONG intro

Tried to get tickets to watch this in Pavillion, but ended up in the Imax cinema. Great Sound!

This movie's is a spectacle, it has the craziest car scene I've ever seen!

As suggested above, it have got most disaster scenes from other disaster movies AND THEN SOME (tectonic plates anyone!!), truly a worldwide catastrophe

Americans in this movie ACTUALLY praise China, President Obama really did some good!! smile.gif

The handphones in this movie works EVERYWHERE, why can't we not have coverage like THAT in real life!! tongue.gif

They actually showed a kissing scene, how crazy is THAT!

Better shut up now, before someone puts a hit on me!! ph34r.gif

Cant understand anyone who calls this one 'ambitious'. If anything its the very opposite of ambitious. Replace the ragdolls with human begins and you get an animated Terminator Salvation, with even less character development.

So I short, somebody watched Terminator Salvation, went home and noticed his/her teddy and went hmmmmmm....
