27 dresses

predictable cliche, girl with problem + guy with problem -> argue -> fall in love -> girl with problem finds out she got conned -> fight -> blab labla -> romantic happy finale.

some comical parts but nothing exciting and new really, something to bring your gf too

4/10

Thanks I've been spare from those.
I didn't watch enough English film at the first place.
But so far most that I watch Trainspotting, Hot Fuzz, Shawn of the Dead, This is England, Cash Back etc are all very well made films to my liking.

Shawn of the Dead is great, but Hot Fuzz is a terrible unengaging mess. Likewise, A Hard Day's Night is terrific comedy, but the only thing good about Help! is the production design of the Beatles' apartment.

Opera Jawa. A visually and musically stunning Javanese opera from Indonesia's Garin Nugroho. Highly recommended nod.gif

this movie makes me smile. it a very sweet movie. it really reminded me of the time i first got my hands on a camcorder over 2 decades ago. war, fuzzy feeling all over again

then you have Michel Gondry at the helm doing his funky editing and camerawork. is there any other director who can is more innovative than this man! in terms of camera angles and effects i think Gondry just bettered his previous film Eternal Sunshine. But i still think Eternal Sunshine is still the better film plotwise.

i recommed this film to any young filmaker or people looking for a film that make them smile from start to finish. its not a laugh at loud film but boy it made me feel like a kid again. Gondry even teaches you how to shoot a scene so it looks like an old 1920's kinda movie.

what a way to break the fourth wall huh?

8/10....... really sweet and innovative movie

but here is a note. if you hate Jack Black or Michel Gondry film. stay away please. you will hate this movie even more if you are not a fan. as for me.........i am still smiling. i watched this film last saturday. when wast the last time a movie made you feel good inside??

Love Actually. I actually bought the DVD bcz of recommendations from my friends who mentioned that it is more than a chick flick, very meaningful and I decided to give it a try.

I must admit that it does feature a stellar cast (Neeson, Linney, Grant, etc) and meaningful, especially if watched during Christmas, but it might be pretty harsh should I compare this to the heavyweights of Crash, Babel (who are almost in the same parallel-lives genre) but Love Actually pales in comparison.

At least it didn't satisfy my Unholy Trinity of C's - corny, cheesy, cliche. Love Actually was corny at the right moment and was close to being cheesy but definitely cliche. Most of the scenes were rather predictable and I know that is how it's supposed to work for a holiday flick like this but they could have done it more un-cliche-ish.

The scenes were finely put together, just not solid enough. And some of the scenes were totally predictable, it kinda got bored midway. The Colin adventure to the US was a stupid scene, although it had Elisha Cuthbert in it tongue.gif Totally unnecessary.

It's not an easy film to pull off anyway but it did just fine for me, nothing to shout about.

3/5

@amalost

yeah. the cinema was sparsely occupied. this film is very under tha radar. Michel Gondry is not big here in malaysia. most people also find Jack Black annoying. so thats two things going against this movie

me?

I LOVE GONDRY! he is like my film god. i decide to watch this movie solely on the fact that he directed it! 9 ringgit well spent!! its better than the dissappointing NCFOM and I Am Legend.

Juno. Slightly disappointing from Reitman, after his fantastic and cleverly-funny-as-hell Thank You For Smoking. I cant remember laughing a single time in Juno, plus I found Ellen Page's character very unlikeable. It's still a light, well-structured movie, but it's no big deal for me. 7/10.

haha, spot on. I didnt really like LMS at first, but repeat viewings have been much, much better. Somehow I doubt this will happen with Juno though, I simply didnt like her character.

HELVETICA

was pleasently suprised that a documentary about a typeface can be so interesting. a commentary how a typeface can play a major role in our daily life.these days i walk around looking for helvetica.a must see for all graphic design or FCM student. i finally know how E Spiekerman looks like. his book is a required reading in school.as for me. i dont really like the typeface Helvetica. I am a verdana persona

27 Dresses !! Good show that one. Although i cant relate to it at all, i thought it was pretty brilliant. Some of my friends didnt like it though. The most disturbing part of watching the movie was having the couple beside me who were repeating the lines of the movie to one another. I was going to lose it !!!
