The Phantom (2009)
Am Original SyFy TV Movie.
Firstly, do not mix this up with the The Phantom (1996) with Billy Zane. That was more faithful to the original comic strips.
Secondly, DO NOT mix this up also with Phantoms (1998) with Ben Affleck, which was based on the Dean Kootz book (one of my favorite books, but horrible movie)
This is a revamped on The Phantom comic strip. making it more hip to modern audience.
Did it succeed?
There are two 120 mins episodes.
For the first 40 minutes of episode one i kept going what does this have to do with, By Jungle Law, The Ghost Who Walks, Summons The Strength of Ten Tiger (Saturday morning Cartoons) and in actual fact, NOTHING. It was all the attempt by the writer to modernise the legend of The Phantom.
Like most movies nowadays, whenever action is used, Parkour (Free Running) is highlighted. Though for the new Phantom, it makes sense.
Then after the first 40 minutes of the movie, I went Awwwwwwww, like that one ah?!!

And then the The Phantom, the legend lives, happened.
On some level the modernisation did work.
Most flaws in this movie boils down to the baddies.
I've always been a fan of Isabella Rossellini, but she is BADLY cast in her role here.
The other baddie played by Cas Anvar as the CEO of Singh Brotherhood, hasn't gotten
Grand Standing down pat (and never will)
As for the twist at the end, abrupt might be a good way to describe it...
It is obvious that SyFy is hoping to create a TV Series from this, and will they, I suppose the numbers they achieve with this Blu Ray would tell
One last note, the lead Ryan Carnes is good looking enough and seem to be able to handle the "Action" part of stuff, and have to add, he needs to learn how to handle interviews better (part of the Special Feature). He almost put me to slept with his interview.... (I read The Phantom, well materials about The Phantom [hello, it is called a SCRIPT!!!])
