mad detective (sun tam) - so good/smart/inventive hollywood definitely gonna bastardize this.

notebook - cheese...i sorta like cheese.
the leads are ok, ryan g is also good in half nelson, the movie is one note until the love scene, it suddenly feels alive, i guess nicky c learnt a thing or two during his softcore days. man, james marsden cast again as the loser who don't get the girl (cyclops 1-3, superman, enchanted)

However, it is Tommy Lee Jones' character and his stories are what elevates this beyond a mere brilliant thriller.

mamat khalid's double bill 'ROCK' (80's mat rock scene) + Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang (noir.femme fatale.komunis.shaw studio.p ramlee.pontianak.were-harimau) renew my faith in local cinema. both are funny as hell

black dynamite (blackspoiltation homage) my vote for the funniest of 2009. didn't know michael jai white has IT in him.

avatar 3d - zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

to live and die in L.A. - William Friedkin directed this 80's cult classic, most realistic counterfeit money printing every portrayed on film, wang chung scored soundtrack, counted more than 7 person shot in the face, willem dafoe burn fake money in the nude while watching home made sex vid, William Petersen as a cocky as fcuk cop doing a full frontal. car chase here, tops the one in french connection.
double bill with: point break

vanishing point [1971] - the name kowalski (primal scream tributed a song) or supersoul ring a bell? this movie is so cool that badass Viggo Mortensen did a shitty remake. essential road movie with awesome visual especially the nude chic on a motorcycle, can't get the visual out of my mind.
double bill with: faster pussycat kill kill

american psycho: perfect 80's tribute on corporate soullessness and c.bale doesn't suck. i reakon this fcker can only do intense. his take on phil collins. hughy lewy, whitney are classics
double bill with: ichi the killer

dostana: hindi cheese escapism set in miami. i like it. the homage to kkkg and kush kush are surprisingly good. i want myself a DESI girl smile.gif
double bill with: anyone one of those i mentioned

blue: another hindi cheese!! a worthy watch for its underwater cinematography, beautiful bahamas, bangkok, lara dutta bikini homage to jessica alba's into the blue
double bill with: the deep

fantastic mr fox: classic wes anderson. lovely costume design, soundtrack n superb voice cast smile.gif
double bill with: alice aka Neco z Alenky

The Losers
+ Jason Patric and his sidekick - can see this mofo is having a great time reminded me of Chris Klein's performance in Street Fighter: Chun Li
+ that avatar chic in leather
- the gang...boring
- Chris Evans has nothing on Ryan Reynolds
- to those who say Glee's don't stop believin'....go fark yourselves. using the song is just tiresome, cringe inducing....its too soon la! Some memorable ones that I can think of Whitesnake - Here I Go Again (American Dad), The Cars - Drive (Transformers), You're the Voice (Hot Rod), the Nirvana song during the beginning of a shoot em up in Shoot Em Up.

macgruber - one of the funniest this year

expandables - gang had zero chemistry, sadistic, mean spirited, sly + the rourke = freakshow, a sign your flick gonna suck if Lundgren outshines everyone, surprisingly gave a very sympathetic performance. the two female cast are hot though.

180° South - docu about a dude inspired by his hippy heroes to retrace their footsteps to Patagonia. awesome stuff one of my fave this year.

No Rouke was a disappointment. His character was poorly written and developed (the whole movie was actually). That's why I said the movie needed Jeff Bridges.

he needs someone like darren aronofsky to direct his ass not letting him do as he pleases.

predators - boring but at least danny trejo didn't outstay his welcome unlike machete, another one that i've lost interest in half way through.
alternative to these borefest: check out the ori predator and the funny as hell and very true to the grindhouse/blaxploitation spirit, black dynamite.

hey old timer, time is short, stop watching shit n get on with the good stuff. tongue.gif
here are some i would like to recommend you:
-Nicolas Roeg's Don't look now [1973] beside the psychological fright fest that it is, its also has one of the best shot husband/wife fark scene. remember soderbergh's out of sight?
-the innocents [1961]. its available on bluray.
-polanski's other gems like repulsion, knife in the water, cul de sac, the tenant and lastly i've got a feeling you might miss this...chinatown
any recommendation old timer?

Gosh you are the last person I thought would be defend The Last Airbender!

It wasn't bad, and I think a lot of people went to watch it because of the TV Series, and storyline wise, that runs rings around the movie.

Therefore the hating.

I do hope that Mr M Knight gets to make 2nd and 3rd movie, to redeem himself to the fans of the TV series.

It is ALOT better compared to The Sorcerer's Apprentice!! Really.

i like the cartoon particularly the relationship between zuko n his uncle. someone said that the way m night shoots the flick its as if he's directing a cartoon. thats why the one note/kayu performance. come to think of it this is exactly like avatar.

not the best but highly enjoyable.

can't wait for The Sorcerer's Apprentice, effin nik cage in it tongue.gif

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

laugh.gif

Michael Bacall (screenplay), Edgar Wright (screenplay) & Bryan Lee O'Malley (Oni Press graphic novels) must have been heart broken/pissed off at the world and O.D. on a steady diet of Nintendo and Hong Kong Kung Fu movie!!!

Again I reiterate, there is not really any original ideas left, only a merging a collection of different themes into one movie!

This is a GREAT example of what I mean!!

The list of cameos who had made an appearance is impressive

Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Thomas Jane!!!?

Been some time since I last saw Jason Schwartzman!!

There are so many Games/Manga/Kung Fu cliches here, they are IMPOSSIBLE to list

And to top it off, this is suppose to be a teenage love story????!

Definitely NOT for everyone (Many references that people will not get) and I have to add, I'm Luving it!! smile.gif
