QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Jun 24 2009, 10:56 PM) Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist - Cera is really becoming one of my favorite actors. If him and Page had babies, let the first child be a feminine one so I can have first dips. I like that movie too, just watched it. but Cera should really stop doing movies like this already, I could really get bored with him.

Cassandra's Dream - Can't believe I took this long to watch this Woody Allen movie. It's a tad similar to the excellent Match Point but I think the ending saved it from being too similar. It's a very Woody Allen movie - the character development, the script, the haunting environment. Very good watch I must say. 4/5

Requiem For A Dream Requiem For A Dream offers no forgiveness, no hope, no happy ending - only pain, suffering and a sledgehammber blow. This Darren Aronofsky's stylish and avant-garde film is not for the faint hearted and certainly not for those who can't take a smack of reality in the face. The scoop revolves around 4 parallel lives, whose dreams and ambitions were shattered as a result of drug addiction. Aronofsky paints realism aplenty with his trademark "body camera" and the split screen techniques. Combining it with the brilliantly written screenplay and the haunting music, you get a depressing and tragic film that is sure to be a painful experience. There is just ain't enough movies like this. There is much to learn through this movie, but I wonder how many actually take heed Added on June 30, 2009, 6:48 pmQUOTE(QuickFire @ Jun 30 2009, 06:40 PM) Yeah... embarrassing that it's only my first Kurosawa! Anyway tonight if I'm free I will watch Jackie Brown, the only QT film I've not seen. I love all his other movies except for Deathproof. Utterly disappointed 7 Samurai, Rashomon, Ran are my top 3 Kurosawa movie. This post has been edited by Makakeke: Jun 30 2009, 06:49 PM

Persepolis.
This is my 2nd time watching it and it gets better. The life of Marjane was brilliantly told, uniquely and smoothly. It feels as though I knew her and i think the movie did a great job by allowing us (or just me) to emphatize with her. The film brings us through a series of unfortunate events occuring in Marjane's life, we see her idolizing her activist relatives, going through puberty, her love life, and all surrounded with the premise of the Iranian war era. The way the her story was told is also unique. I love the humour and the wit sandwiched in between the gloomy theme of the film. The "eye of the tiger" scene takes the cake. 4/5.

The Fall.
Quite an extraordinary experience. I've honestly have not seen a movie like this before. It's highly imaginative and unperturbed by the pressure of Hollywood. Great cinematography and topped up with an ace visionary direction of Tarsem Singh. 4/5.

Star Wars (1-3)
I think it's widely agreed that Revenge Of The Sith is the best among all. I think it's mainly because there was a real story to tell - the transformation of Anakin to the dark side. We already knew the ending but Lucas really brought up his game after the first two prequels, which were going around and around without a solid story to tell. The acting and focus in The Phantom Menace was a menace but was slowly redeemed in Attack Of The Clones. I still find the romance between Padme and Anakin a tad annoying, it just wasn't convincing enough for such a significant event. Nonetheless, the action scenes were better, well Star Wars isn't about the action scenes but I had to look at them to compensate the lack of story. Neglecting the original trilogy, it was a fair effort by Lucas but we know we can't neglect them, right?

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Jul 15 2009, 11:48 PM) For a movie supposedly ingrained in film history it's funny how I've never heard of it. lol Saw Fast & Furious halfway and decided it wasnt interesting enough for me to continue watching it at the expense of studying for my test tomorrow. Got The Seventh Seal, Watchmen Director's Cut, and Boy A lined up for the next few days. The Seventh Seal, interesting. Let's see if you like it

Watched all the 5 Beatles movies in the past few days. Let It Be is my favorite, probably because it's the most "normal" of the bunch, it has more songs and it displayed more chemistry between the boys. A Hard Day's Night and Help! was loads of fun, so was Yellow Submarine, which was a real treat to the eyes with its colorful, psychedelic scenes. Magical Mystery Tour was too random and awkward but I like it though. Watch it in the order as they were released and see how they actually changed and mature, even in that space of 6-7 years. Good stuff.

QUOTE(ray123 @ Jul 22 2009, 12:24 AM) 12 Angry Men. 1957 black & white version starring Henry Fonda. All time classic. Just watched it again earlier while idling away the night (WoW servers down). Great film about 12 jurors discussing a murder case. Very interesting to see the speech patterns and mannerisms of the times, and the scene when Lee J. Cobb's character's eyes bulged in blinding rage will stick in my mind for a long time. Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_Angry_Menone of my fav films.

QUOTE(ray123 @ Jul 22 2009, 01:37 AM) If you ever plan to watch the '57 original, DON'T look for youtube videos. There are some clips from the movie there (apparently it's been used a lot for various civic class studies). I'm advising this not because of the legality, but to save yourself from spoiling your enjoyment of the original. Some scenes are emotionally powerful and it's better to see the full movie in one seating than discovering it from bits and pieces off youtube. if better, get the dvd with the commentary, even more excellent.

Let's push this to 1000!
Last movies: The Hurt Locker, Coppola's The Conversation. Both were great, particularly the former.

Sleuth (1972)
This movie can be aptly labelled as a "thinking man's" movie. I do consider myself a thinker and I'm a sucker for movies like this. There is a Hitchcock-ian aura that surrounds Sleuth and if you love Dial M For Murder and Rope, you'll definitely love this. The script is extremely well written. Sarcastic, witty, and quite deceitful too. Caine and Olivier were a perfect match to bring out the best out of the script. There is no rocket science, no special effects, not even a third actor, just plain dialogue that will change the way you view movies. 4.5/5

I just came back from the premiere of G.I "sucked balls" Joe and yes it sucked. You can't get a more generic and a more convenient action movie than this. I mean c'mon - there's the "bad guys" and there's the "good guys", oh and it's supposed to be a secret operation that only a few know about, duh. Then there goes the battle between them. I just realized it's the same plot as Monsters vs Aliens!
The action scenes were...generic. If this was released in 2000 or if I were 12, I would have left the hall feeling satisfied but I'm not. I thought the chase scene in Paris might be the saving grace but it brought even more cringing than before. And you can't get more coincidence and a more convenient plot than this pathetic movie. Everyone seems to be connected to one another, even between the bad and the good guys.
Acting was nowhere good, so was the script, so was the CGI and so was the action. Boo. And you thought TF2 was bad. 2/5

QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Aug 5 2009, 10:17 AM) So... U wouldn't recommend going to the Imax to see it?? if Imax Malaysia is still using the same aspect ratio as the normal film and stretch it on the imax screen, i will say NO to every one of them.

QUOTE(greyshadow @ Aug 5 2009, 11:08 AM) watch Ponyo On the Cliff by the Sea last night 10/10 rating from me a really heart warming animation by Hayao Miyazaki, best watch together with the whole family. 100% will put a smile on every one. I like it too. Another Miyazaki film to watch with the family is Totoro. Porco Rosso and Naussica are his other lesser known films but great ones.

The Hangover.
Thought it was very entertaining, not as vulgar as I thought it'll be though. The cast was alright, but they should have gotten like Vince Vaughn, etc to strengthen the male bonding and the comedy movie as a whole. I still rate I Love You, Man as the best comedy of 2009, yet to see Apatow's Funny People.
3.5/5

Boy A
Absolutely breathtaking. I'll rate this film in the same podium as Requiem Of A Dream. It's beautifully bleak and it's just those kind of films that makes you depressed yet finding a new meaning in life. Now i need to find the book. 4/5
