Good morning and selamat hari raya all mighty and knowledgeable /k
i bow down to /k knowledge and wisdom and humbly request for tips & guidance for solar installation on my roof.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

i'm thinking of a 3kW or 4kW system and get RM3k or RM4k rebate.
there's a high chance that i'll be getting an EV before the december 2025 expiry on EV tax break.
a 500bhp high performance AWD car for RM200k is a very interesting proposition. expecting another RM100-ish electricity cost the EV?

so any guidance and tips from /k expertise in very much appreciated.
any good solar installer that covers northern area that /k can suggest? i'll try to get site visit and quotation after this raya holiday.

thanks a lot everyone for the feedback.

One thing about dolar panels, the technology is  improving.  My fren ordered a 300w solar panel system during mco time. So couldn't instal. Then 9 months later when installed, the installer said 300 panels dropped price edi cos 350watt panels are out so he got a free upgrade to 350.  So u may want to wait tioo u get ur car since ur car sounds like its going to take a lot of kW.  Alao always choose micro inverters for best efficiencies
*
tq. noted.
the RM1k rebate might get snatched up before end of 2024. probably can't wait that long.

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Apr 13 2024, 08:35 AM)
Here lies your problem bro,

Your current bill usage doesn't justify the cost of installing solar panels. IMHO bills above 300myr constantly justify dropping money on it. That said if you are buying an EV, you may wait for it to come first. Use it for a month then see how your bill increases.

Since time isn't on your side with the 4k subsidy from TNB, may I suggest if you could ask your friend to charge his car at your house and see how ur bill increases? Even with myr 100. A 250 myr monthly bill Macam tak berbaloi la in my honest opinion
*

a friend has the dolphin. but IINM i won't be able to charge it from the normal 3 prong plug?
we need that special wall box to charge an EV right?

QUOTE(dickybird @ Apr 13 2024, 08:41 AM)
Spend the money planting trees around your compound is better
Your bill is too low even with 2 EV.
*
lots of trees already.

entire compound is now surrounded by trees. and the rear of the house is surrounded by green paddy field.

Wait after you getting your EV first then baru think about solar
*
can't wait that long.
that Skim Insentif Solar Rakyat rebate will be snatched up before i get an EV.

waiting for gov to announce the new EV roadtax scheme. if they slap RM3k for 500bhp EV roadtax mampos.

My bill also sky rocketing ever since changed to smart parking thing . Parking T&B
*
can clarify what is smart parking? i don't understand.

QUOTE(SuperTuhan @ Apr 13 2024, 09:20 AM)
So bloody fucking cheap

mine one big fridge, one small fridge
6 airconds at least one of it running all the time whole day 24 hours
no ev cars
daily use electric cloth dryer

bill average RM1300 per month
*
you go buy a FLIR/thermal camera and see if there's any hotspot or cold air leak from the room.
also good to insulate the entire roof to reduce heat from the rooftop.

QUOTE(accordvtec @ Apr 13 2024, 09:33 AM)
u sure your meter is not tampered?
my house is smaller, 3 airconds every night, 2 fridge 1 chest freezer cost me around 700-1k+
*
not tempered in any way.
it's the new TNB smart meter i think.

i did the entire wiring myself so no it's not modded in any way.

RM150 monthly bill many solar installers advise to do ENERGY SAVING. Not solar. I got that advise before so I ditched the idea. Solar is not the solution to your problem
*
i've probably done some sort of energy saving. that's why my energy cost is low.
i don't really have a problem with the energy bill since it's low as it is.

but consider this.
if i spend RM14k for a 4kW system and get RM4k rebate.
so total spent is only RM10k to generate about 400kW of power monthly.
400kW would allow me to contra about RM150-ish a month allowing me to have RM0 TNB bill.

RM10k / RM150 = 5.6 years of ROI then i'll get to live for the other 4.4 year on free electricity.
quite a good investment, no?

QUOTE(enduser @ Apr 13 2024, 11:16 AM)
Bos, get a few quotations from solar installer,
They will survey ur house n give the detail

Can pm me for few installer contact
*
thanks will PM you.

TS tnb bill too low my house ada 5 AC plus 2 gaming PC/2 normal PC my room Aircon definitely everyday more than 12 hour other probably few hours since old folk's afraid too cold also exceed RM 500 tnb bill monthly, last months start already exceed RM 700 because bukak and yolo only who care climate change.
*
yes probably too low for a solar system.

QUOTE(lj0000 @ Apr 13 2024, 11:32 AM)
Check with tnb first if your area allow feed in.
If cannot don't bother starting calculation
*
thanks. will need to check with TNB branch that handle this area.
thanks for the heads up.

First convert to 3 phase wiring for charging EV, will be much faster charge (x3 faster)

Later if electric bill is high enough, only consider solar.
*
the house is already on 3 phase wiring.

The non inverter AC is the killer...  sweat.gif

Water pump - for 4 bathroom... 200W is more than enough. It's highly unlikely you'll be using all taps in all bathrooms at the same time.  sweat.gif  That's why I wrote it's over provision.

My house water pump - only 150W, for 2 bathroom with a shower, toilet, wall pipe and a sink each. All good  thumbsup.gif
*
my house has 2x 0.5hp (370W) water pump.
one for the sedimentation tank and another one from the sedimentation tank to the storage tank.
from the storage tank it's gravity fed to all 5 bathroom.

no loss of pressure since there's multiple distribution pipe. all 1 inch diameter.
another energy saving design to reduce pump cycle.

Any real picture of the rooftop?
*
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

the roof area is built according to the drawing.
measurement from the drawing doesn't differ much.

QUOTE(dickybird @ Apr 13 2024, 12:05 PM)
Rainwater collection system and more trees is a better bet I think. As well as spraying your roof white.
I think you’ve designed and built your home intelligently hence the low power bill. Even if you do nothing, it would be very good as it is.
*
the entire roof is heavily insulated with 3inch glass wool.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

beneath the glass wool there's a double woven aluminum sheet. even during hot midday sun the roof temperature is kept at around 37 degrees.

the entire roof structure is then ventilated with aluminium louvers to further reduce trapped heat.
there's already rainwater collection that i use for irrigation purpose.

all looks good, add in intake fan and exhaust fan for better air circulation. TS forgot add in wind direction.
*
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

there's no intake and exhaust fan anywhere in the house.
it's all natural ventilation.

general wind direction is as above.

Ev total cost of ownership
No oil change still need servicing”
Tyres need to change every 30k or less
Suspension also will take a beating up north and that’s why northern people buy car and use PG plates to lessens the depreciation from the perception of Northern plate cars being driven on bad roads.
*
true. suspension does take a beating.

there's a lot of these agriculture dirt road everywhere.
it's better to drive a tall SUV than a low slung sports car over here.

QUOTE(ozak @ Apr 13 2024, 01:29 PM)
If not mistaken, roof facing west and east is not optimum for solar panel.

If the whole roof install panel, morning east panel get sunlight and afternoon west panel get sunlight.

Optimum for panel is roof facing south with 15º deg slope. Sun pass left to right and whole yrs max.
*
haiya.
i designed the wrong roof then.
solar is really not my forte.
i used to think solar facing the west is the best to catch the most sunshine. doh.gif

QUOTE(Boy96 @ Apr 13 2024, 01:34 PM)
Ts planning to get byd seal which only supports single phase charging
*
yes the 500bhp AWD byd seal is mighty enticing.
that, or the upcoming byd sea lion SUV.

an SUV will be better for the roads that we have up here.
slap a small 15-16" rim and some thick all terrain tyres hngghhhh
