Hi everyone, I would like to find out what to do with a colleague’s car.

He left his car under my car during the pandemic in year 2020 cus he want to go back to his country to stay with family during lockdown. Unfortunately he passed away due to covid.

Now I’m in contact with his son & he wish to sell of the car. What’s the procedure like? Neither of us know where the car grant is. Meaning no car grant.

How to transfer the name to his son & sell it off as second hand car? What’s the procedure like & anywhere providing such service?

If cannot transfer to next of kin/sell off without the car grant… what shall I do with the car? Can I pass it to the city council? I’m so lost 😞

Pls help out with any advice, thanks in advance

go to JPJ and get the car grant printed,
is the car under your name or the deceased name?
if under your name can sell it easily
if under the deceased name, need death certificate, police report and will to transfer, otherwise wont work.
if everything cannot work, then just dispose as junk, or spare parts.

The car is not under my name. Just I help him to take care when he go back to his country.

Now how to transfer the ownership back to his son without him coming to Malaysia. His son not in Malaysia. Can retrieve the car grant + transfer ownership to his son before selling the car off?

How to dispose as junk? Not sure if the city council will take it? I’ve read about de-registering the car before can dispos as scrap right? The owner also not here d, how to de-register 🤣😭

complicated.

owner deceased & not a resident also their next of kin not in the country. They can approach the embassy in their country, but good luck with that.

what is the residual value of the vehicle? consider that against the effort needed to "legalize" the car for sale/scrap
*
Basically his son is alright with any decision whether to sell it if possible or if not possible, then scrap it. The car value is around 20k I think. I’ve helped to renew road tax/insurance all these while to avoid it being dead.

Anybody I could approach to help with the processs to scrap it. JPJ or city council? lol headache.

no will... no go...

you cant even junk it legally... but plenty of unethical ways to get rid of it...

Haha. Preferably the ethical ways.

Since you considering junking. Why not you drive it? lol

Isn’t it a bit troublesome if involve car road block or accident (touchwood) ? And I don’t wanna keep the car in my taman d also because lack of parking spot d. Super limited parking space 🥲

what car, even jpj will need owner
no issue driving a legal car on the road, not report stolen. but parking & extra possible trouble yea, i get it.

Perodua. I just called JPJ. They say even to lupus the car, need the owner itself or next of kin. If nobody to claim the car, then I can contact city council to ask help move the car away. Not sure if they wanna help. So troublesome la, next time learn a lesson… don’t help anyone take care of car 😂😅

True also. I was thinking you have valid license and insurance should be fine. But I forgot when you claim you might need the owner to be around.

Condolence to your colleague. Mind telling where is he from? Just curious. In any case maybe try contact 2nd hand dealer. Maybe they have a way to solve this but I suspect the amount you will get back is very little but still, its something
*
Yeah imagine the possible trouble if involve in an accident. Contacted second hand dealer also, they say this is too complicated. They don’t take such case.

Cannibalise for parts as suggested.

Not morally wrong since you are custodian and has permission of deceased owner next of kin
*
morally not wrong but legally not right also 😂
