Hi, I am currently using simple Galaxy buds with noise cancellation dialed up to max to reduce wind noise..

This is because prolonged wind noise will cause hearing damage.


Was wondering if helmet intercoms does the same as I do not like the idea of putting on ear plugs

If not, please share how you manage this issue

P.s, even with noise cancellation at max, the wind noise is significantly reduced but I can still hear cars..

Is your helmet a half face or full face? Half face helmets will always have significant wind noise compared to full face.

I have ridden with half face and full face with AirPods Pro on and at around 80km/h, half face has wind noise even with AirPods Pro whereas full face does not up till 110km/h.

Galaxy Buds may have worse noise cancellation than AirPods Pro hence why you have to dial it up to the max. On my AirPods Pro, 50% volume is sufficient for music and I am unable to hear other cars/motorcycle so it can get dangerous riding without much external sound.

I have changed to a Cardo Edge with a Shoei Neotec 3 and wear earplugs. I can tell you that there is still wind noise above 100km/h although quite mild. Without earplugs, the Cardo Edge is more than loud enough at 50% volume however with earplugs on I will have it at 80% majority of the time. To answer your question, no intercom unit on the market can get rid of wind noise as best as a noise cancellation earphones can. You may want to consider a custom molded IEM with noise isolation however it can get quite expensive

Yes full face will have lesser air noise but my buds can't fit inside properly and keeps falling out of my ear.

Hence I wanted to change to an intercom unit and wondered if it had noise cancellation tech so I don't need to separately get an earplug

an intercom will NOT make it quieter coz the speakers will be on ur helmet and ur earhole will be exposed. the best way to reduce noise is to cover ur ear hole via earplugs, or perhaps IEM style earphones.. if u dont like the idea of earplugs and noise is an issue... start liking the idea of earplugs. nothing beats them in terms of ear protection. not even noise cancellation.

u trying to NOT hear cars? trust me u WANT to hear them. no matter what noise management u use, u will still need to be aware of your surroundings via audio.. so yes, ull want to hear cars, bikes, lorries etc. not totally cut out all sounds.

For cars noises.. I put the disclaimer that I still can hear cars cause I know ppl will be freaked out if I purposely mute out hahahaa

Helmet quality and design greatly affect how loud the helmet is.

I still recommend wearing earplugs at highway speeds even if you have a quiet helmet. I just use cheap disposable 3M earplugs. Just replace them after a few days of use.

i usually use my samsung galaxy bud 2 for this... it generally cancels out any noise above hazardous level

issue is i cant get it to fit inside my Full face and considering to get intercom -

so will probably get intercom and the earplugs

I am using the Daiso earplugs with Shoei GT Air 2 and intercom. RM 5.60 and comes with 2 pairs. They usually last for about 4~6 months before i have to replace them. The amount of wind noise is also dependent on the bike you have as well

We don't have this problem with our Cardos, unless the mic is wrongly positioned (it happens with flip-up helmets).

can this work with bluetooth headsets to listen to music? as in can the music pass through?

them 3M earplugs blocks it out and i cant hear the music from my cheapo headset speakers.

I am using Mack's Earplug for 3 years already, it blocks out the wind noise while I am still able to hear my music through my cardo at 50% volume if I ride at 90km/h:

Other people have recommended Alpine Motosafe earplugs, slightly cheaper than Mack's earplug however should work the same for blocking out wind noise while letting in the music.

Yes, can hear my Cardo music and it filter out high pitch wind noise wt the same time.

Yes it works fine with the 3m plugs. I've been using 50rm BT for years with 3m yellow plugs. No harm trying. They are cheap. I bought a box of 200 pairs ....it would last me quite some time.

Now, that said. If you got a loud helmet, it's just going to drown out any audio. I notice that people that complain thier BT not being loud enough, also use vey loud helmets. No BT headset can out-loud wind noise if the helmet itself doesn't damp it enough.

A loud helmet can be as loud as 100+ db. Even if you can crank up your BT volume, it's not advisable to even go so high. Remember db scale is logarithmic, a 95db helmet is way quieter than a 100db helmet...let alone some that as loud as 105+

Champion helmets YouTube channel as very comprehensive test on helmets, so you can check where your helmets noise levels stack up. Thier test bike is a GS1250 with a big windshield, so if you are riding a naked or a bike with an ill positioned windshield, expect the helmets to be even louder than the review.



The yellow 1250 are a bit quieter than the normal red ones.

Ive always used the 3M 1110 plugs and my rm50 bt set cant penetrate it even at max volume.

Wind noises above certain decibels will cause damage to ears (generally any wind 90kmh above) if exposed for prolonged periods

I ordered this n just received....whats the correct way to insert n how the hell to remove?

I did the hand behind head n pull ear to straighten ear canal bit....but kns panic coz cannot remove hahahaha

Lucky my son was ard so he used a pair of tweeser to help me pull it out

Afaik, the larger flap is to be on top...that seems to work but still takes quite abit of effort to remove

The flap is vertically inserted top and bottom not the side

yeah thats how i did it... i noticed when the smaller flap is up top... impossible to remove

despite having a bigger earlobe... my ex-wife n current gf also diagnosed me as deaf

No, Just plug it into the hole as normal but not to pushed in until too deep, just ngam2 sit at the lobe.

I use something like this but got it from Daiso for RM 5.60 for 2 pairs. Didn't have any issues removing them as the stem is quite long and easy to grab and remove.

this type was actually the first type i ever used.... only lasted like 10 minutes then i removed them coz they caused me so much pain with the helmet on

so far the only ones ive tried that works are foamies... 3M 1110 with string... n another different one my GF bought for me

Did you try cutting some of the stem off to make it shorter? Might be cause of the pressure on the longer stem when helmet is on. I did cut a bit off for the first few ones I used.

I had tried many types of ear plugs.

Those silicon type hurt me most.

Those tampon like with strings are mostly silicon type, hurt me.

Those ear bud like Apple bud, Jabra bud whatever butt, I always have problem keeping them in place after I shaft my head into my full face. One of them will surely dislodge. I wear head cover btw to keep them in place... Grrrrr....

Those cone shape foam type does not seem to cover up by big ear hole properly. I usually get one side slightly dislodged and can hear more on one side over the other.

no i didnt... i just immediately kept them...

if foam is not fitting properly and getting dislodged, u may not be inserting it properly. u just shove in or u do it like video? supposed to be like video with hand behind the head n pulling ear thingy

I replace the foam when they started to smell nice from a distance 😝
