Indian car manufacturers (Tata / Mahindra) manufactures car models each with around 20 variants for the ease of the buyer's affordability.

Recently I was browsing a Tata car model called Nexon and was surprised to see so many variants within same model and feature packed.. Same on their competitor Mahindra with their model XUV300.. The OTR price ranges from RM52k to RM 86k for moth brands.... much superior to what sold here..

the problem with such huge price range is that it'll eat into its own market right?
like say a 50k toppest of the line axia, might as well buy a myvi for the same price

price varies with features... base model is MT with 2 Airbags and fabric seats etc... top model goes with 6 airbags, AT leather seats, infotainment system (They even throw Bose or Harmon system)

52k to 86k is not a huge range. The number of sku will drive their warehouse and supply chain crazy.

Are you sure it's variants or does it also include options? The latter is a norm in other countries like the states/ UK.

India is 5th largest economy in the world....

Malaysia 36th....

also, the selling by quantities is higher compare to Malaysia....
India produces 2nd largest steel resources

what we beat them is the number of cronies PER KM in this country.

Got to wonder their reliability. Automotive suppliers in India usually don't need to use automotive qualified components and can opt for commercial grades only.

Global NCAP Rating for Tata

Tata Nexon facelift SUV has retained its five-star safety rating badge as it sailed through the latest Global NCAP crash tests. Here is a quick look at how the new Nexon faired at the tests.

Mahindra XUV 300 Globcal NCAP Rating

Mahindra XUV300 becomes the latest Indian car to get a 5-star crash test rating from Global NCAP and it scores a 4-star rating for child protection, which is the highest among any Indian car that Global NCAP has tested.
