Just stumbled upon this video of a brake failure in the Chery Omoda 5. Poor lady who experienced shock when the brakes failed while driving on the road. The severity of this case reminds me on my experience with my Ford Focus mk3 (now sold) where I can't turn the steering wheel when the vehicle was moving on the roads. One will only realise on the severity of the issue or danger if involved in these real life situations.

I wonder how many of such cases with the Omoda 5 have been reported other than this one, perhaps an isolated case I'm not sure. Are there any other vehicle which showed this brake failure other than the Omoda 5?

I'm trying to gather information if there are any other (new) vehicle which showed this brake issue, consistently so that I can scratch them off the list. I was actually looking at th new Omoda E5 ICE which looks very nice especially the interior, but now after watching this I'm not so sure...

search for car or vehicle recalls

you will find plenty of big brands and what failured

you can also search for class action lawsuit on the company

Malaysia should quickly implement the lemon law to protect consumers...

If the lady owner gets involved in an accident with that vehicle because the brakes are not in proper working condition, I am sure she can press charges against the manufacturer. Hopefully she survives the accident first.

There are 2 issues here. First is the vehicle. For such a new vehicle to experience a (dangerous) safety issue is surely not good. I am not sure if this is an isolated case where it's only this visibly shaken lady owner who created the video to highlight on this case, or there are other owners who experienced the same thing with their Chery Omoda 5 but didn't report in the media.

The second issue is on the professionalism of the service centre in handling the issue. The brake failure is a serious safety issue where after the owner has lodged the first complaint, the workshop ought to seriously diagnose and confirm on the fault and subsequently rectify the problem. Apparently the issue was brushed off by the service advisor where the name was mentioned in the video although the owner might have visited the service centre several times to complain. It's a disservice for the service centre to not be able to successfully troubleshoot the safety flaw on the first visit which is to me is a serious negligence on their part.

Before something bad happens where lives may be lost, perhaps it's a better idea that this incident is blown up in the TV3 news or The Star paper so that more people are aware about this rather than being covered up by blanket.

Brake failure is totally unacceptable. I once drove a brake failed car it just scared the hell out of me.
This lady's experience is even worse for without physical brake lever to pull!

One of the issues that I observed when I was in the Omoda group was leaky brake reservoir. Happened to a few cars. Brake fluid was quietly leaking out of the brake system.

Doesn't look like a good start for Chery with this incident. Are there any owners of the Omoda 5 or other vehicles who experienced the brakes failure? Pity the lady who appears to be terribly shaken and cried.

I truly empathise with her feelings, imagine being rejected by the service centre after highlighting the brake issue, not only once but perhaps twice or 3 times only to find herself in a dangerous situation again when driving on the highway when the brakes suddenly failed again leaving her stranded by the side of the road and the possibility of another vehicle hitting her when she tried to steer the vehicle to the side. Imagine the anger and disappointment she had to go through due to the irresponsibility and incompetence of the staff at the service centre which surely painted a bad image of the Chery representative here in Malaysia. I wonder if the other Chery branches are as bad as the Puchong branch where the lady owner had gone to.

May I ask if you own the Omoda 5 since you are at service centre?

Usually brake signal only monitor brake fluid level. If low brake fluid the car should have a lot of warning signals shown on the console, which I don't think I see any in the video.
Probably internal cylinder failure with fluid still aplenty in her case?

I was in the group (WA group, not service center) to see owner's feedback as I was interested to buy one as well.

Ended up not buying and left the group.

Yea I think her case not related to low brake fluid.

I mentioned the brake fluid issue to illustrate that the Omoda brake system has leaky brake system as well, on top of this.

Useful to know. If it happened to few cars, this may suggest that there may be more people who have experienced the same brake failure on their vehicles, but without videos such as the one made by the lady owner above.
