Hi guys,

Recently we (the family) found out that my brother have been taking loans from ah longs, and now he's on the run (supposedly). Today I'm getting multiple whatsapp messages and phone calls from people telling me that my brother owes them money.

I have nothing to do with all this, and I'm not the guarantor either. What can I do to protect myself?

I talked to the police, and they said to just block all of their attempts; I've also registered a police report to create a proper paper trail / chain of events.

a. should I have talked to the AL on whatsapp to explain to them I have nothing to do with this?

b. what should I do if some guys dropped by my house?

"Pay the loan" is not an option for me because a) it's a huge amount, and b) it's not my debt, and honestly I don't want to take responsibility for something I didn't do.

Make sure your parents are safe, install cctv outside your home/parent's home

1. Lodge covering police report
2. Install CCTV at your house
3. Block and ignore any call from loan shark

Moving house is a bit impractical at the moment, but I think I will install CCTV; does anyone have any recommended models?

They will harass as a mean of last resort to recoup debt. If harassment is futile, they should leave you alone. By responding to their WhatsApp, you are opening the channel for harassment - not a good move.

All right. So far they just (tries) to Whatsapp and call me (and I block/not respond to it all), but it's making me super nervous. Every time I hear a noise outside I was like "oh shit!".

Really hope they'll give up soon.

This one runs on DC cable. You can buy DC cable extension and just extend it

real life experience here due to few cousins (mom side) encounters with ahlongs. These were due to gambling debt and business issues.

All I can advice is just follow what bro.nelson969 shared above. That is the best course forward. Listen to what these Michael Chong ke, DAP ke service bureau personnel will share with you to the dot. They have been dealing with these issues for a long time.

As for those CCTV ke, dog ke, those are only side dishes that you can do if you have extra moolah to spend on. All these can't prevent shit from happening. CCTVs can only provide you with recording of what happened, which may prove useful when do follow-up report with polis and/or MCA/DAP service bureau. Try not to use memory card as the camera itself may get burned down. Dog？ Don't bother, it may end up dead after a nice treat of bbq pork pau.

In the mean time, start moving those flammable items in and around your car porch immediately. Just either throw away and/or move somewhere safer like empty neighbour houses (with permission la) etc etc. Also start consider and checking for home content and/or fire insurance if these include riot/arson.

Keep in mind that despite all these incoming harassments, all they (ahlong and his minions) wanted is their due back (with interests of koz). Da boss doesn't go out in public to do all these, so it's the minions (most probably debtors) that is doing all these intimidation works. So no point to even plan your own vigilante movement unless you're ready to go deep into the worm hole.

If you have the mean, also consider renting a house a few doors away and move there for the time being. This should keep your family safe while being able to monitor your own home within a safe distance.

If ur brother borrows from ahlong, ask that ahlong to get it from who borrowed it, stop torturing the family. Looks like u have one helluva charsiew brother who has no whatsoever respect for the family. Secondly, you can contact mustafa khan. Hes famous for dealing with ahlong. Better contact him. This guy is really badass. He might put all this to a stop.

A friend of mine (A Lady) tot its a good idea to negotiate with AL for his brother's debt and she ended up kidnapped and raped by them. The gang made her a sex worker in the end to repay the loan since the bother went on the run. They will continue to harass you by any means to get back their money.

My advice is the change your number and move immediately to condo that offer several tiers of security so they won't be able enter and harass you.

When you borrow from ah long, they probably want personal and contact details of all family members and relatives before they will lend the money.

Nope, her dad died from stroke and mom passed away in that year. She's all alone dealing with repayment of debt. Her life is ruined becos of this brother.

She was threatened with the release of photos and videos during her ordeal. I'm not going into further details. Damaged had been done and there's no way to relief the torment. I can't help but think perhaps death is a best way out for her.

Sorry to hear what happened to her.

I somehow agree with the suggestions provided by Nelson and Speedy. Used to have an ex-neighbour who got into some sort of trouble and one night, in the middle of wee hour, one of their car parked outside was on fire, and this gave everyone a fright.

If these people can find where you stay, they can also find out where you work. Before long, they may start harassing you at your workplace or nearby your work, and this will always be a problem.

Already did this.

And everyone, thank you for your various suggestions. Everything seems to be under control for now. Hopefully me and the rest of my family can continue to live unmolested.

As for my brother... well, I feel he should take responsibility for his actions.

More likely she has been tricked thinking that she must follow what ah long told her to do. If she's your friend, you are supposed to teach her the law and instead would scare the ah long back until ah long pays her money not to report police.

When comes to rape case, it is considered serious criminal offence that police would come in full force especially ah long is not earth pipul and not helang.

Your wild guesses and assumptions...lol.
