Yesterday Uncle nearly kena scam.
Uncle was looking for a recyling company to come collect uncle unwanted furniture. The recyling company call me over whatsapp ask to install their app in order to make a booking for collection. Uncle without realise ( out of desperation) install the apk app into uncle phone and then proceed to launch the app and register. when come to payment part there is an error. the guy say need to pay RM10 for booking the lorry to come collect. The guy mention need to update the app from his side cause their payment part got error so app needs to be updated and ask not to shut down the phone... the guy on the whatsapp call is a chinese and speak chinese to uncle sound genunie... uncle become suspicious saw uncle phone suddently got black screen and the word updating. uncle faster cancel the update and the guy call again say why i cancel the update.. uncle tipu the guy say uncle phone cacat , hang, need to reboot.... the guy right way put down the phone. uncle fast fast uninstall the app and then do a scan on the phone then saw his watsapp become unavailble. Uncle right away block his whatsapp. Lucky samsung phone has a good security feature which allow to scan for malware etc.. uncle do a full scan and result is ok. uncle check all phone data still intact... uncle also quickly change all uncle bank login password on the spot. So far as of this morning uncle wake up check phone again all seems ok. did another round of scan scan result is ok. check bank account, balance still there.. uncle will monitor phone and data next few days and see. uncle panik last nite cannot sleep well...

Uncle got check online there is a few recycling center that offer collect/sell back your old furnitures are scam ones... uncle saw some feedback some ppl kena until to the extend their phone got wipe out. uncle lucky phone not wipe out and data still in tact.. password all changed liao.

guys, beware of these scam.. if any of you kena before kindly share your experience.

You change bank password via phone or computer? Better not change on phone coz they might monitor it.

I saw CNA doc say the way it works is that they can use another phone to mirror your phone, see what your screen show and take control.

One reason why I am adamant not to enable face recognition on all finance related app. Though slightly less convenient.

i know but again yesterday dont know why something trigger me to install the app... seriously yesterday black day for uncle 4.4.24.. anyhow lucky something trigger me to stop it and uninstall it.... whew!!

Can sidrload but use a phone only for shit apps with no email/banking/linked accounts.

Did you use your phone tho change all the login id and password?

You can never be sure if the app is actually fully uninstalled, the scan may not be reliable as it doesn't catch the thing when you were installing or even launching.

I hope you change the password in amother computer or another phone. If me i will backup content to google and format the phone even though it seems like overkill.

But k security expert say sms is the problem. When there is no way people can get your id and username via sms.
Nowadays queue also got app. All because can get access to your phone data which is either can be use to hack or get personalised ads.

Just do not install any apps provided by any link especially in your social media.

idk what their response would be like but these issues need to nipped right at the bud cos if they missed you as a target they'll just move on to the next and so forth, must once n for all tangkap and put a direct end otherwise it just continues

lucky you realised it early, all it takes is that small light bulb moment to pause a moment n ponder

their MO is clever in the sense they don't immediately / directly tell you to install........there'll be convos going back n forth.........out of the blue when the timing is as such that you're maybe busy with something, then they'll pounce on you with this

i go carousell n manage get few barang terpakai seller

at first, i been offer rm150-200 for few of unwanted furniture but there are some furniture that seller reject to take away...
rejected furnitute like custom made L-table + custome made altar
then i give up and offer them to come collect all for free as i jz wanted to clear the furniture...
FCFS....whoever reach my doorstep first can collect for free.....
done settle clearing in next 2 day.....
initially offer to take few furniture rm150-200 n only can collect after 1week....
