A new version of the Mercedes-McLaren has been developed by British motorsports company RML Group for a handful of privateer teams who hope to compete in a new club racing series. The car was solely designed for the track and has no approval for on-road use but that hasn't stopped 21 individuals paying the estimated euro1 million price tag for the privilege of owning one of the hottest race cars on the planet.

Compared to the series-production version, the SLR 722 GT has been significantly upgraded with most of the modifications done to the suspension, braking system, aerodynamics, interior and exhaust system. In total, more than 400 components were either replaced or redesigned.

Under the hood lies a supercharged AMG 5.5L V8 that's had its boost pressure wound up to 1.75bar. Other modifications to the powertrain include a high-flow sports filter and exhaust system. The final output of the force-fed motor stands at 671hp (500kW) and 830Nm (612lb-ft) of torque.

New body components include the front apron with front splitter, wide wings, prominent side skirts, the large rear diffuser and the fixed rear spoiler, all designed to improve the car's aerodynamic performance on the track.

A brief specifications on SLR 722 (standard version)
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition. The 722 refers to the victory by Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.

The "722 Edition" boosts power to 478 kW (650 hp) and 820 Nm (605 ftlbf) torque at 4000 rpm, posting a top speed of 340 km/h (6 km/h faster than the standard SLR). 19-inch light-alloy wheels were used to reduce unsprung weight, while modifications were also made to the suspension, with a stiffer damper setup and 10 mm (0.4 in) lower ride height introduced for improved handling. Larger 390 mm diameter front brakes and a revised front air dam and rear diffuser were fitted.

Overall performance has increased, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds, 0-200 km/h time of 10.2 seconds and 0-300 km/h in 28 seconds. Exterior changes, other than the larger 19-inch black light-alloy wheels, include red 722 badging, harkening back to the original 722 racer.

Should be very expen$ive and 0-100km/h in 3.6 secs are quick but not as quick as some of the rivals. I do hope that there will not be anymore variant for this SLR. Go make another new car.. rclxms.gif

At 1st, SLR. Then, SLR 722. Now, SLR 722 GT. What's next? SLR 722 GTR?? Are they trying to create a car that can emulate the CLK-GTR?

Hey, dude!! That's not fair to pit the SLR against the Veyron. Totally not in the same league. If Koenigsegg CCX against Veyron, it will be better.
