Hi guys and girls, what made you all decided to change over to iPhone, be it new buyers or older buyers.
I'm considering whether or not to get one, maybe an iPhone 15 Pro Max, but then just want to know more real use cases or benefits of iPhone instead of through Youtube reviews where they mostly speak of the main features and not the small small functions.
Things like gestures, or hidden functions that you guys really like in an iPhone

The only thing I know about iPhone is that there's no back button. Different app have different ways to go 'back'. Some are on the top left or right corner, some have gestures like swipe to left to back?
Any other things / features that are different an Android?

I am ex-Android user during my school time, I like to customized alot of things, everyday change this and that.

Then after coming out to work, i became minimalist. I like those that work from day to day, of course without lag.

ADD-ON: Back then I used Note 3, when I urgently want to call someone in front of my client, my phone froze and required to pull out battery to restart
My client and I stood there very awkwardly like few mins.  doh.gif

In IOS, there's a back button on the top left corner, and sometimes don't, depends on the UI of the app. But i just have to swipe from left to right, and it act as a "back" shortcut.
*
yeah that's what I know, it is usually at one of the top corners, and being a massive phone, I'd probably struggle to reach that far up to go back
unless its a universal gesture where you swipe left to right to go back then that's alright

QUOTE(faiz293 @ Mar 20 2024, 11:31 AM)
Coz my wife is using it. Several years later, the whole family. So its the ecosystem.
*
ecosystem as in the ease of use and transfer of data between devices no?
if you got a macbook, ipad or apple tv (box) then can transfer videos or notes or files between all these devices, then I guess it make sense la to get an iphone if the whole family is using it

QUOTE(wailam @ Mar 20 2024, 11:31 AM)
why do you want an iphone? for the long lasting-ness of an iphone? I heard from my friends who are apple fanboy/fangirls, they can use for 4-5 years before needing to change another phone. if it can lasts that long, then I think it's worthy to buy. I have a friend upgraded from iphone 6 to iphone 13.. that's like what? 7 years?
is it for your own usage? yes
just youtube only? whatever a phone can do of course.. who would buy a 6k phone just for youtube?
for its ecosystem? - if its worth getting. Currently im on a midrange samsung A71, with the earbuds and galaxy watch.. if get iphone, somehow feels like it might be a waste for the earbud and watch
for your work? - daily driver and work?
you want to test iOS? - maybe? seems need time to get use to. I can't use my friends' iphones at all

swipe left to back is almost universal.

Why got me into using Iphones -
I bought 2 expensive Samsungs (Note's and S's) were my last 2 androids. I was seriously considering to shift to Huawei but it got nerfed, and frankly I got spooked by stories of insecurity.

I had the most trouble with both Samsungs up to the point I could not take it anymore and surely needed a few phone. There was no good choice in 2020, except for the Iphone 12. The samsungs never lasted more than 1.5 years everytime. Either SW bugs or HW bugs will surely come out. I didn't want to spend 3-4k on a phone that doesn't last.

My wife who was very adamant about not switching to IOS even though we all used Ipads since 2012, also found the Iphone usable eventually. Now she is fine with it.

So i think if you value your life and time in not having to tinker and do all sorts of reset / reflash / tweaking / greenify bullshit, and just want to use your phone then Iphone works.

I've seen the latest Samsung S's that some of my friends rock. I think their camera are great, if not better than equivalent year Iphones. I think their HW is also great. But no one has a better SW package that works easily out of the box than a Iphone.

AND when you combine this with a Apple watch and Airpod it is really smooth and simple ecosystem that just effing works. On top of that it works for a far longer time than a Samsung or China phone.
*
yeah now the latest or rather their flagships are quite comparable with iphones. Good software and hardware, just depends on what the user really wants in a phone.
yeah I heard of iphone lasting for years, easily 4 and above. But I still haven't heard of a Samsung even flagship ones lasting more than 3 years before something starts to spoil.
heck, even latest s24 is getting exynos chips, which is quite a let down. Only the s24 ultra is getting sd gen 3.
at least base model iphone 15 is getting last year ip 14 pro's A16 chip.
feels like samsung is not treating their customer base with respect..

The simplicity of iOS.
I’ve reached the age that I just want things to work smoothly.

But for My next phone I might shift back to Samsung S series due to new iPhones are getting more and more expensive.
For now still loving my 13 mini
*
Samsung S series is similarly in price with iphones though. around similar range. maybe only differ by a few hundred.

That no back button issue is only a matter of getting used to. As mentioned by others, you can swipe left or right to go back or forward on certain apps. Also, many things you could do on an android doesn’t work on an iPhone and you might get annoyed at first but after a while you get used to it. Once you really understand how the phone works and all its tips and tricks, you’ll start to realize how easy it is.
Only setback for me is many functions are not available in our region. Might be nitpicking to some, but it annoys me that I cannot use the phone to its full potential.
*
cons of living in a non-western country i guess?
true, everything takes time to get used to. Android do give more freedom for customization, widgets, and layout setting.. like you can place apps wherever you feel like it whereas iPhone forces you to fill up the grid.

I'm more comfortable with iOS as my daily driver than Android although I've tried using severals Android phones including Mi, Pixel, Samsung, Huawei etc. I always prefer a straight forward OS. 80-90% of the time iOS doesnt give me any issue. Any of my daily driver apps works flawlessly. Currently using Android as 2nd device.

It all depends on individual preferences. Both has its pros & cons. Need to take consideration of your daily usage. What app, does it run smoother, will it give me problem in long run etc.
*
So far how's your experience on iOS or iPhones? Any apps ever crashed before or just hang?
Most importantly banking apps. Like cimb, public bank and maybank.. All good?
as for Facetime and iMessage, do they work and are FOC when use between apple users? sorry if noob question.. totally 0 knowledge on apple product.
daily driver apps for me usually just whatsapp, microsoft teams
social media are the usual - fb, ig, tiktok..

15 pro 512 is around 6k after discount, for s24+ 512 is around 4.4k..

thats a big difference
*
Nah gotta compare iphone pro max with s24 ultra. both of these phones are more competitively priced
15 pro is like somewhere in between s24+ and s24 Ultra imo.
but yeah samsung offering more promos and sales.. I saw someone in the Samsung thread got s24 ultra 512gb or 256gb for around 4.5k also. But from some online store that he states is original set la..

Long time user using iPhone since 3GS, cant say much about experience for new user. My experience might be differ than your expectations.

All banking apps work flawlessly. As others mentioned, the security is top notch.

FaceTime & iMessage are FOC.

Another strong point for iOS is the app optimization. Main reason why they all work flawlessly.

Customer service is top notch as well. No other brand comes close to this point.
*
as long as no issues with banking apps and apps never crash then its all good i guess.

I started using iphone since 5S. Bought it from my friend which upgraded his phone. haha. I bought for 700 that time. lol. Consider quite cheap, market rate was around 1k i think. Used the phone for close to like 5 years+ i think, then upgraded to iPhone 11, preordered it cause it will arrive on my bday. haha.. Really did got it on my bday. After 3 years i upgraded to iPhone 14 Pro Max and gave my phone to my dad. Also bought an ip11 for my mom last year. So my whole family now is in Apple ecosystem haha. my sisters are using iphones as well. lol so far phone is good, rarely lags, been using ip14pm only lagged once. sweat.gif
*
what was the reason that it lagged on the ip14pm? just random or heavy usage at that time?

QUOTE(deepan84 @ Mar 21 2024, 07:27 PM)
Just dull with the same interface. And you can’t really install any “free” streaming apps. Also battery tend to suck after the 1 year warranty period..maybe due to new iOS. Other than that, no issue with the daily UI experience. Value for money? Can’t really say that now with the pricing reaching 7k for appropriate storage. Got better value in android. Just waiting for pixel to be officially launched and I’ll probably switch just for change of experience.
*
Suck as in how suck? Can make it through 1 day of usage from morning till night?
True, updates might drain some as well..
value for money imo if you pay 6k now, and last you through 5-6 years.. then its quite worth it. provided there's no other major issues with anything and still pretty lag free throughout the years
I doubt pixel will ever be launched in malaysia.. unless there's a big player that is willing to take it up and be the authorized seller here.

I personally love the software, the features & it’s much easier to transfer photo during hangout/family gathering as most of them wear iPhone (in my case), been using both iPhone & samsung (as second phone), but tbh I like them both. I like samsung for its zoom camera quality, I like Iphone for the software.
*
true i guess.. with the airdrop, can just drop and share to other iPhone users around easily.
like when I'm the only samsung user in a group of friends with iPhones. All use airdrop while i need whatsapp.. kek
camera wise, I think it's subjective. No doubt Samsung's camera with the zoom is better in quality as its a legit lens and not digital zoom.
but the outcome of the colours and texture, still kinda 50-50 between samsung and iphone, depending on light
screen wise, I can't say as I've only been looking at Samsung AMOLED for the past 3.5 years
but if im not mistaken, Samsung is the one providing OLED screens to Apple right?
So quality wise, similar?

QUOTE(GamersFamilia @ Mar 23 2024, 10:16 AM)
built quality
camera quality
love everything bout it

can see that.. lol. You're active in the iphone 15 and ip15 pro threads. . hahah

The cheap screen protectors & cases  biggrin.gif

Some things that I miss from Android:
- Back button
- Keyboard
- Notification icons
- Youtube without ads
- Other Android apps not available on App Store
- Camera settings
- Volume button
*
What, since when apple has cheap screen protectors and cases? You're saying knock offs and things from china or original items?

Back button - yeah, not universal across apps, understandable
Keyboard - what about it? I know the new iphones can swipe right?
Notification - I see my friend has a long ass list of notifications, are they not able to be cleared? She always has like 20+ items
Volume button - what about it?

OEM. I've always been jealous that iPhone users can get cheap SP & cases.
Of course, that was just one of the reasons.

The following are just my personal observation and experience. They may or may not be cons.
YMMV.

Keyboard - The layout of the keyboard.
Android has numbers, comma and period. It's also customizable.

Notification icons - Icons on top of your screen when there's a notification.

Volume button - Volume settings, to be precise
Android can adjust media, ringtone, notification, alarm volume all at the same time.
*
ooh right.. Keyboard. on the ipad, I think you cannot long press the top row of alphabets to choose their number counterparts. Only become the same alphabet with a symbol above
So notifications in apple, cannot see the app logo / icon, but you gotta pull down the whole notification tab to see what kind of notification you got?
ah.. true. android can set different volumes for separate functions.
