I have one standard VHS cassette that I'd like to digitise to MP4 or similar format. Does anyone know who can do this? It's just one tape and I don't have a player, so not worth buying the equipment myself.

My intention is to archive to at least two M-disks. They're supposed to last a very, very long time, much longer than magnetic media or dye-based DVDs.

I want to do the same with an old family VHS. My VHS player has gone missing. So either get someone to digitize it for me or rent a VHS recorder and I can digitise it myself.

How is your progress on this?

Are any electrical/electronic shops offering this service?

I used Techmedia at One South. Not a great job, had to correct the audio sync myself. RM100 per VHS tape.
Other services around the Klang Valley are:
MGTV (expensive)
AZ Digital Video in Shah Alam (cheap)
Marshall AV - a member of the forum, I think

Thanks.

Know how they did it? Connect VHS output to a PC (need certain cables)?

What is the video resolution? No choice, a case of you get what is in the VHS video?

You can use Resolve to polish up the color, scene, sound, etc.

Enjoy that video memory!

I don't know how they did it. They said they use professional equipment. They do a lot of commercial CD/DVD copying, apparently, not just some guy in a basement.

Resolution is 720 x 480

Thanks.

Need a video capture device (cost US$20 - x00). Saw a video saying most of the cheap ones are useless.

For VHS video, need dual lace capture as that is the old video tech.

I only want to do it for a video. So get a device just for that is on the border line.

Exploring if Nvidia GPU can do video capture.

P/S For those interested, see this video.

AZ Digital Video in Shah Alam is as low as RM35 per VHS tape. If you don't have many, it hardly seems worth buying the kit.

I agree.

Exploring whether Nvidia GPU can do video capture. I got 4070 and might as well make the best of it.

P/S Cheaper option:

Can buy, rent or borrow one VCR for the tape to digital transfer.

Will be rclxm9.gif to see the old images for the whole family, both the young and old ones..

The tutorial is not hard, use lanzcos upscaling to 1080, only the capture card abit expensive. Well, same cost as mgtv charge per vhs tape

Study abit on this topic. If need best quality, really expensive investment. Some equipment are not manufactured anymore. Need to clean tape, time base corrector and upscale video so not stuck at 480p at this age. Not sure what quality mgtv provide, so far only know they clean tape, record 3 times for best quality at rm180. Very time-consuming so I think their price is fair enough
