By right, the theory is that electronics will depreciate in price over time right?

Demand.

When there's demand, inventory reduce & price will go up.

Last May I bought 1TB NVME 160. Now the same thing 230.

Manufacturers reduce production. Artificially creates shortage. That increases demand.

NAND production cuts have since been announced last year (and started during H2), that was why many of us kept telling ppl that the best time to buy SSDs was late 2023 as 2024 is forecasted to have sharp increase in price

top end PCIe 4 SSDs (4TB) from samsung and WD were only selling at around 1.1k - 1.3k during nov-dec 2023

Yes, it did
But the manufacturers (eg, Samsung) sees the price has gone too far down, too low for them (it may no longer be making profits but be a loss for them)

So, they stop/reduce production
Supply and Demand
Stock goes down
Price goes up

I was going through some old saved images of mine recently
Back in Aug 2023 apparently some PC shop had a promo for some PNY CS3040 GEN 4 NVME SSD, 2TB for just under RM400

Those days and those prices are long gone

I must have been one of the lucky ones to have gotten 2x 4Tb NVME for <RM1200 many months back.

I was kinda out of the loop with SSD prices (already settled with my storage stuff) but when I got my 4090 laptop, 2Tb NVME just didn't cut it. Instead I replaced it with 2x 4Tb.

While it is true that SSD makers have been raising prices by up to 50% its not to the extend of what SSDs are selling today which is nearly DOUBLED.

What you see today is a combination of NAND price up, extra logistic cost due to Red Sea, falling RM, increase of SST, and extra profiteering from the distros. The last three you blame on this Government.

More like Samsung was fucked by USA, banning chip sales to China. Now everyone no diao USA liao... while they ban u from selling, their own USA companies are selling to China (yes, Micron) until China sendiri say Micron possessed security risks and ban themselves from buying from this muthafacker.
