Hello, I've been using this 5yo+ machine & over the years games have becoming more graphical demanding, don't know if my system can cope for how long. Added some parts over the years, don't ask about the ram, I got the crucial at 2x price during the ram "crisis" but also cannot do without ram.I still haven't install the 2 extra case cooler, I need to clean and repaste first, can I still reuse my PSU for new GPU ? sweat.gif

Right now my priority is gpu with a budget of <RM1800, any experts or sifus here have any suggestion? thanks
Note: looking for the one that can support 2 monitors (1440p &/ ultrawide?), will also be undervolting maybe

Save up for RTX 4070 Super or RX 7800 XT. 1440p really demanding. RM1800 can get you RTX 3060 12GB (still not enough for 1440p). RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti is dumpster fire due to 8GB VRAM. Unless you can find RX 6700 XT 12GB at RM1700.

16GB X2 DDR4-3200 kit prices going up as well.

Not just the low VRAM, the very low 128 bit memory bus is going to be a huge struggle on higher resolutions icon_idea.gif

Budget too low, either save up for a RX7700XT/7800XT, or look for something like a used RX6800 (non-XT) if you can icon_idea.gif
Might be worth looking for a PSU upgrade too (old platform, probably not useful for modern GPUs) icon_idea.gif

Here's a used RX6800 Pulse for RM1399:
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3...4b-ff0b64e521e5 (buy with caution, potentially ex-mining unit)

This one:
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1...4b-ff0b64e521e5 (will require a PSU upgrade)

Also pro tip: The lower CPU driver overhead of AMD drivers should be quite helpful for your setup in CPU bound conditions icon_idea.gif

Enjoy bashing driver overhead again? Here, more AMD driver blips that is never ending.
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/...are-open-source

I've recently encountered Asus TUF RX 6800 doesn't like my Asus ROG StriX Z690-A D4 as well. Had to do BIOS settings to fix their rubbish.

AI=! Gaming, and stop conflating the two doh.gif
It's a known fact that AMD drivers tend to do better on slower CPUs due to the use of hardware scheduling, and there's quite a few videos about this (the first one actually uses a substantially slower GPU):

Its still 7900 XTX.

I had first hand experience with RX 6800. Keeps random crash. After spending days looking for the problem, it has compatibility issue with power management. I'm not the only one with this problem as of now.

For high-profile gaming GPU, get the at least 4 heatpipes. Best 6+ heatpipes, then there is no need to undervolt the GPU.

I have no experienced with AMD however in case of Nvidia:
RTX 4080 > RTX 3070 Ti > RTX4070/4060

To TS, if your not going to change PSU then 4060TI 16GB / 7700XT max cuz that PSU is pushing 9yo today. Anything higher, wattage wise maybe 4070 can do, but that age it might risk failure.

Plus anything higher and you likely will be CPU bound anyways.

As 4060TI will push out more heat than your 1060, do install those 2 fans for better cooling.

Thank you all for your input. If I increase my budget to RM3k, I should be able to get RTX 3070 or 4070 for 1440p right? What was the recommended PSU wattage for those cards?
I heard that nvidia will release blackwell late this year or early next year, I could wait for better deal.

got the PSU together with whole rig 5y ago, saw different versions of it (Grey & Black edition), is it still fine to use it after 5y if I get at least RTX x070 ?

On the case fans, I cannot find extra fan header or don't know where... most mb only have 3 only right? confused.gif
Also need to readjust power cable blocking the top fan slot sweat.gif

Don't buy 3070. Another 8GB trash. Go for 4070 Super for RM3k. Looking for 750W PSU. MSI A750BN, NZXT C750 are recommended ones.

You can buy a PWM fan hub to add more fans.
