But I'm sorry you need a pro version of windows 10/11 and not home version.

Only available if u using windows 10 pro or windows 11 pro edition.

My PC meets the win 11 spec with frequent requests from MS to update. But declined for the privacy, and spying issues with Win 11.

why is there a dire need to run windows sandbox?...

you can easily create virtual systems using other free softwares like virtualbox or vmware.

heard that VM has some shortfalls, slower, etc. Not the case?

no harm trying for whatever use case you have in mind right?.. since it's free .. you dont lose anything but your time spent on it.

I've used both apps before... to me they are fine and bearable on my 10yo PC , for testing applications and development projects.

Upgraded from win 10 home to win 11 home. Took longer than I expected, about 3 hrs.

Surprised that it did not ask me to choose this and that or register ac. It upgraded all by itself. Good. Mine is with non-MS ac.

Disappointed no sandbox in my new OS! Ha. All is not lost. See where Win 11 is better than Win 10 despite its resouces-hungry spec. My PC has better specs than the win 11 requirements.

sandbox is quite literally a vm as well, it is a Microsoft Hyper-V VM and if you turn on sandbox you turn on Microsoft Hyper-V as well

it may affect other software that use a vm like bluestacks or other vm software like virtualbox or vmware

the benefits of sandbox would be it is faster to boot and is self resetting

but a fully featured vm would allow you to save stuff

Now a dumb question.

Say I got an exe attachment in my email and I want to verify that it is virus/malware free. I run that program in sandboxie. It runs,

BUT how do I know whether it is infected?

Use malwarebytes, anti-Virus to check that program? I can do that check without sandboxie, just run malwarebytes or anti virus on that program. Safe as long as I dont run the attachment program.

What am I missing here?

However, most of them have small file upload size limits and quite a few pieces of malware today intentionally make themselves be larger than those limits to avoid being uploaded to these scanners

a web sandbox that logs every single action the program has done
but dont just blindly accept the MALICIOUS verdict at the end, some suspiscious activities will make it flag as malicious even if it isnt

now again, unfortunately free tier is limited to windows 7 32bit, which a lot of software may refuse to run on

and unfortunately, paid tiers for these services are usually VERY expensive as they expect you to be a malware analyst/researcher/professional, not a causal user checking a file

Glad that I have upgraded to Win 11. Find it cleaner and easier to use than Win 10. The upgrade took 3 hrs but was smooth without any input from me. They used the settings in my Win 10.

well I guess it's better now but back then bluestacks wanted me to uninstall and reinstall a made for hyper-v variant of bluestacks

yeah, back then it was real pain in the butt to use all of them together.
Perhaps Bluestack finally fixed the issue,

There's an Android Studio emulator too, but the stability was questionable, and the gigantic download size is not worth the problem unless you are an app developer
