A wide angled camera would be better. Like Ixus 850IS instead of Ixus 70

Comparing the choices you gave, I would go for the A570IS because it has Image Stabilizer. But if the size of the A570IS puts you off and if budget permits, you can try out the Ixus 850IS or the newer 860IS. Wide angle has its advantages.

Why not consider Nikon P5100. At RM1300 it's just RM200-300 more than those 2 cameras (A570IS/IXUS 70) but with much more features, 12.1MP and still compact. It's RM200 less than 860IS!

The new Canon Powershot SX100 has just been released!
S$569 RSP. Too bad no wide angle on that x10 zoom.
Seems pretty good... not super at ISO800 or higher, though.

I don't know of any other brand/model that gives as many manual overrides as the Canon Powershot series. Being able to shoot at manually-configured settings is key to learning photography.

Same price as P5100 and yes it does have PASM plus manual overrides. You can't put external flash on that SX100 and it's only 8MP but that 10x zoom is something to kill for. drool.gif

They do sell auto external flashes for compacts. Fixed to the compact via a metal bar/bracket, and triggered by the compact's flash emission (slave flash sensor). But it is very prone to accidental trigger if you have someone else nearly who's taking photos with flash on...

hi thanks for your reply. can u suggest a place to buy the camera? I heard that one needs to know how to bargain for price, additional stuff like camera pouch/bag, memory card. etc etc. Doesn't that come together with the camera? blush.gif

PASM is a manual control where you could adjust the aperture, shutter and ISO manually.

I am based in Penang. So, I can only suggest shops in Penang to get the 850IS. Where are you based?? Perhaps other forumers will help you if you're based in other states.
