skudai parade I used to live nearby also rarely go, maybe 2-3 times, better option was around the wider area (jusco/aeon taman u, giant tampoi, kip mart, angsana), not close but more options in terms of groceries and other stuff

best world/danga city mall macam kena cursed by the flyover next to it, business plummeted right around the time the flyover was completed iirc. Danga city mall also no tenants attractive enough to pull people over to shop there

waterfront machiam doomed to fail even when I was a kid, block some of the sea view of the istana lama/muzium some more, probably kena tulah

kemayan city lucky the rebrand and rebuild somewhat successful, at least looking from the outside

Not enough middle class msian chinese population in johor?

C pipur quite expert in sme biz/trading biz. If theres a good ecosystem of them operating in shoplots and malls. Usually you can see the commerical area thriving. Can see penang as example and also some cities in KV where thrs higher population of them.

More like too many big malls along that main Skudai road, doesn't matter what racing live where when so many alternatives, used to be got Angsana and optionally Perling Mall, the only hypermarket was Macro and then Giant in far off Plentong, the skudai area and taman u area punya customer base had to travel far if want to shop, before that in the 90s my parents went all the way to JB to shop at either Holiday plaza or Best world.

Years later Skudai Parade appeared, but within a few years of it, iinm, Jusco also started in the nearby Taman Universiti taking away the majority of the customer base for Skudai Parade. Giant also opened a hypermarket in Tampoi along the main road to JB, taking away more of the customer base around 2002, and around that time also got Kip Mart on the opposite side of the road of then the dead Kemayan city.

Too many malls, in fact there was another Giant along the Skudai main road, I don't know if dead or not nowadays.

edit: looks like it's dead too https://www.google.com/maps/@1.5268733,103....i8192?entry=ttu
