Usually the newer 5.5G devices are backward compatible but not the older ones.

For Snapdragon modem chipsets, only SD X65 and newer support mmWave bands and 10G speeds above.

Our TM outdated GPON infrastructure is sooo outdated it's going to get threatened by 5.5G.

8Gbps download speeds. laugh.gif

Misuse of terminology. The appropriate term to use is forward compatibility.

Backward compatibility means that a newer system is compatible with the older version. It doesn't work the other way around.

Simpler explanation:

Backward compatibility:
PS5 can play PS4 games

Forward compatibility:
PS4 can play PS5 games

As for your question: Probably not.

Never heard of 5.5G but 5GE ... yes.

The 5GE is not really 5G but actually just 4G LTE advance. Just new term saying evolving to 5G. They are not compatible.

ooo. OK now I know since you mentioned Huawei.

Breifly reading about it, it is probably just term Huawei used to describe Huawei solution for 5G. The 5G now as only taking care on the wireless transmission between phone and base station. The 5.5G is total package that ensure the switching equipment side integrated together on fiber optic side equipment and the radio side.

So, I think there is no conflict in compatibility. Also there is mentioned about 5G Advance, which will require additional frequency. I think this will require new chip on RF side for more bandwidth to serve more clients where older phone can only use the current 5G channel. So, still operable.

Most likely it is to aggregate a few NR bands together to achieve an aggregated bandwidth so to achieve higher downlink or uplink speed.
