No, not worth it. Games are dated. Unless you don't mind playing old games such as GOW . Save up for PS5 or get a  OLED switch instead to be more futureproof.

New Switch coming this year or latest rumour delayed until early next year. Don't buy Switch now. It's definbitely the last year for the Switch before Switch 2.

PS5 cycle end so soon? Usually a cycle is about a decade
*
No. Typical is 7 years, sometimes 6 years. History has proven it. But support usually ends in 10 years.

that depends actually  if switch 2 offers backwards compatibilty.  if it is, then yes wait for switch 2. however can foresee the launch price go over 2k-3k ++ due to our shit currency. and plus, rumors- so take it with a grain of salt.

if TS want a cheap console and myriad library of games now, better get the OG switch. its cheap enough, you can get 1 around rm1.1k .  A much better buy compared to the PS4.

PS4 feels terribly dated, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

All news points to Switch 2 being backward compatible. It would be suicidal for it not to be. Switch 2 will be based on NVIDIA chipset again. So backward compatibility is a given. Nintendo themselves has mentioned (indirectly) there will be ease of transition from current Nintendo accounts.

Sony already announced la bro that they already entering the end cycle phase of this gen. PS6 will probably launch in late 2026 or early 2027 so that's about 6 years, 4 years shorter than usual console lifespan.
*
I want to highlight again. That is wrong. Console lifespan before the launch of each gen has always been 6 to 7 years, not 10 years.

PS1 - 1994/1995 (depending on Japan/US)
PS2 - 2000
PS3 - 2006
PS4 - 2013
PS5 - 2020

Lifespan from launch date to officially discontinued date. Because they are still selling though?
*
PS4 not discontinued yet. Still got games. Now is 2024. So already more than 10 years. Precious poster statement was wrong. PS5 will likely survive another 3 years after PS6 launch as well

those are launch date not lifespan...
as for PS4 after nearly 10 years but still going strong, i'd say give or take 2025 or 26 before it discontinued.

but then by now you'd rather get the ps5 than the ps4.

Regardless previous poster still wrong. All the consoles has survived around another 2 years after each new gen launch. PS4 is exception, maybe a bit longer due to Covid disruption.
