Me buying a spare/backup motor... probably going to use it for daily use to work, easier to cilok2 than my Kawasaki Vulcan S...

Some have rekomended scooter, but finally i think kapcai still preferable... anywhere in Sabah can repair... plus roads in Sabah nokHaroommm...

So it comes down to these two choices...

Price in KK, Sabah after survey several dealers:

- Honda Wave Alpha 110i = RM5700 OTR
- SYM Sport Rider 125i = RM5750 OTR

both new and ready stock...

Any input/views/comments/experience to share?

Note: me maybe keeping the Vulcan for now...
(posted same topic biker base - but no one there)

UPDATE (11/03/2024):

I got a 2nd-hand 2020 Honda Dash 125i for RM3000 instead... gooding... considering new will cost me RM8k +/-...
Nice backup for my other bike.

Yep... Sabah roads are terrible... I too was considering a scooter... but I reconsidered because not all places have scooter parts and can repair scooters...
Safer option is indeed a Kapcai with standard tires...

Oh... I got my 2nd-hand motorcycle from an auction actually... I bid, I won.... starting price was only RM1500 for the Dash 125i... I outbid others (my main competitors were motorcycle workshops)... so I got it for RM3000~ minor repairs cost me additional RM300... all in all I still think well worth my money~

Here is the company that auctions bike in Sabah - just look at the starting bids for motorcycle -

Honda is good...
But lower cc... 110i vs 125i...
a dilemma...

is SYM really bad? i thought they somewhat established brand already...?

Sabah price... sad.gif

Got also kapcai below RM4k... for example - the SM 110, drum brakes... also got the WMMOTO one
but quality still to be seen... got a Sabahan Youtuber gila one ride that bike from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu via the moon crater roads and through the Crocker range...

am using alpha wave 110…excellent fuel economy ( but tank small…) travel 150km per tank…no problem sofar, speed about 80-85km / hr max…seat a little stiff, bike designed for average sized asian…
*
Good pickup or not from stop at traffic light? me not prioritize speed.

me is fat ass... 135kg now with 1.8M height...
now Im using a rented Yangmahal Lagenda 115... quite ok for commuting... got pickup also... can go around 85km max with me on it...

(rented because my Vulcan S is in workshop, gear suddenly got issue after 9 years of using, now waiting for parts for +/- 3 weeks.. damn)

Ive surveyed the Wave 125i also - cost RM7600 cash OTR in KK.
hmmm... but my budget is below RM6000.... so onli options I see now is the Wave 110i vs SYM 125i sport rider...
(both RM5700+/-... the extra RM300, i want to buy givi and its bracket)

125 and 110 not much different
*
in KK, price difference between Wave 110i (RM5700) vs Wave 125i (RM7600) - is RM1900~ -.-
if really not much difference and can get around comfortably in city area at 80km+/- perhour (taking into consideration my fat 135kg weight)...

Maybe Wave 110i is good and extra RM1900 is not justified~ hmm.gif

Why never consider Yamaha EZ115

because in Sabah, that thing new is over RM7k... sad.gif
my budget is just RM6k...

Im currently renting Yangmahal Lagenda 115 for 1 month... its quite good, no doubt.

Just get a 2nd hand Honda Wave 125i, same price point. Plenty of underseat storage, 125cc engine, full disc brakes.
*
Ive surveyed current 2nd hand market for Wave 125i in Sabah, none is selling... maybe its very good that no one wants to sell... biggrin.gif
if worse comes to worst... I'll get the wave 110i instead...

i need a reliable backup motorcycle...~ if max speed 80km/h also, i have no issue for going back-forth to work in KK area...
(just that if pickup is lousy, maybe i have to change to larger back sprocket for the wave 110i)

I am thinking of getting a new SM Sport 110 E or R, SM motorbike is Malaysia brand one right?
*
SM Sport seems ok also. A lot of this bike being used in rural Sabah by farmers and kampung folks, quite tahan lasak. Practical also in rural areas, cheap to maintain and repair.
