True also. We know India and US have alot of struggling and discriminated minorities, yet these Indians didn't turn to a life of crime but achieved something so weird people started conducting studies on the reasons behind it.
Of course a lot ended up with life of crime, but look at the other end of the spectrum. The similar successful end not so much here though.
Majority Indian (from India) migrated to US are skilled worker not the uneducated (there are uneducated but they form the minority within the minority or earlier generation).
In Malaya, Initial Indian migrant (majority) was brought by the British were uneducated and work on Farm/ Estate and continued working until the Malaysia government moved to Industrialization. Most Indian were kicked out of the estate with no job. Some persevered and move up. Some got stuck had to resort to crime for living & the cycle continue.
In India you are most likely discriminated by citizen on the basis on religion & caste but in Malaysia you will be discriminated because of your race. There is big difference also to be added there is a discrimination by law as well.
When the government of the day is selective in handing out handout/ Assistance oblivious people will turn to crime because they have no skill or option.
There are successful Indian in Malaysia as well but not as many as those gangster type.
Not Justifying their action, just providing some reasoning.
A crime is a crime, regardless who does it
