Hi. This is my first time, in fact, purchasing(using) international roaming service for my mum. She is travelling to china soon. She is using my supplimentary line.

I have scheduled an automatic roaming activation.
I have turned off call forwarding, voice mail, and international roaming of main line.

What else do i need to do? After she reaches China and turn on the phone then the line will be automatically connected?

Sometimes, must connect to roaming partner only.

Example, telco A here have roaming partner with telco A & B only in there, but the phone auto search and registered to telco C or telco D there.

In your case, maxis roaming partner in china are China Mobile (5G) / China Unicom (4G) only.

If connected to non-roaming partner(s) example China Telecom, maxis will send sms mentioned no data roaming and pls search manually & select China Mobile / China Unicom.

Tell her what telco she'll be roaming on. CHN Unicom, Mobile, Telecom.

Teach here how to search & connect manually. Who knows if just out from underground, phone connected to another telco (which has no data roaming agreement).

Teach her to check for Mobile Data - Turned On, Roaming - Turned on. IF she find she can't load anything.

can you actually choose the telco, especially for internet data manually while roaming?

Want to share my roaming experience here. I went to Europe, subscribed to roaming plan, but forgot to enable flight mode in flight.

My phone attached to an In-flight cellular operator, using for few hours of background service and i got charged about RM50 cause the inflight cellular operator service is not part of the roaming plan operators.

I called Maxis to appeal but fortunately they waived but i saw the inflight operator indeed stipulated in Maxis website as Pay per Use.
