Many (maybe majority?) of our CKD or CBU-Thai/Indo/Viet cars these days don’t have rear collision reinforcement beams.

Reason: Because not required for ASEAN NCAP.

We get crap because our standards and buying power are crap.

This is actually quite common for many van/mpv platforms. Even some Merc luxury vans (I forgot what class) don’t get the full 5 stars for Euro NCAP, and the vanilla models (ie; not the built-to-order armored ones used for VIPs) don't come with collision reinforcement as standard either.
