I'm mulling over whether to dive into a Ph.D. or roll with a DBA. I get that Ph.D. is more about the academic vibes, while DBA is like the corporate ninja version. But here's the kicker – why is DBA throwing a bigger price tag compared to Ph.D.? Any correlation with the market demand, you think?
Now, picture this: I'm eyeing it from the employer's seat, especially in the finance scene in Malaysia. How much street cred does a Ph.D. or DBA carry here? And what about our neighbors in Singapore and Brunei – is the game different there?
I've got this inkling that either of these degrees could be my golden ticket for a post-retirement consulting gig or a safety net in the education arena. My brain's buzzing with ideas, but I'm itching to hear your take on this. What do you reckon about the whole Ph.D. vs. DBA saga?

i assume PhD is full research while DBA is coursework. So, PhD for academic or research line while DBA for managerial line.

DBA can do a post career consultantcy ?
I am not sure about that. I know a DBA guy whose just doing part time teaching at a MBA course.
Which is just 3 weeks of teaching per year.
I think you should do PHD or DBA out of interest and networking. Seriously.
If you are expecting ROI from these degrees, you would be extremely dissapointed.

It depends on what particular field of research or study your phd is based. Something technical may mean a possible research or consulting role in addition to the usual expected academic positions, but if it’s in some wooly soft sciences or arts or history then…. might have to think twice…

QUOTE(takeshikitamura @ Feb 7 2024, 02:56 PM) I'm mulling over whether to dive into a Ph.D. or roll with a DBA. My brain's buzzing with ideas, but I'm itching to hear your take on this. What do you reckon about the whole Ph.D. vs. DBA saga? Because DBA has alot more credit to cover compare to PHD who just learn to do research. Generally DBA takes 1-3 more years compare to PHD also
