Recently call two plumbers for some minor work. One to replace the toilet cistern’s float valve. Took less than 10 minutes, charged 150. Another job by different plumber- clear pipe drains and fix leaking P-trap ( this one very minor, just put tapes around). Total charged 350. Work done in 45 min.
Find it super expensive. All materials we buy and plumbers all nearby.

Plumber can charge whatever they want. It's up to you to negotiate the price you are comfortable with.
By the way why don't you do the repair yourself if you say minor work.

Since you know it is simple job, then you can do in future. Part of learning process.

Yes, the charge is up to the plumber. You just need to call ask ask but many cases also they need to come to look at the problem to give quote and you will get charge for that, but you can ask for estimated price range if the plumber is willing to estimate. You can use as reference to compare with other plumber.

I suggest that you Google YouTube to find out how simple DIY fix can be done. If you think you can do it, then you can try. If not, ask for quote. If your DIY is not successful, you can always call plumber smile.gif

Yeah, will check and negotiate the prices beforehand next time. Since they are the regular plumbers we called, only realised their prices up quite a lot recently. Not sure due to Cny pricing or due to inflation

but normally they charge like rm50 per task... some task is rm80 to 100... depending the job scope...

all work done within 1 hour period one.

For things that u could replace urself, learn how to DIY.

Unless it involves hacking, climbing, pipe laying.

After MCO, electrician & plumber realized that dumb consumer are willing to pay ridiculous rates. And so there's no turning back after that.

Looks like will need to pick up plumbing skills. Materials may be cheap but some tools are not. Plus need storage space to keep the tools too. Is there any place where we can buy secondhand tools in Msia?.

Why not DIY? Especially if it doesn’t involve climbing into the ceiling space
