This is jz my personal take, having gone through the process of retirement. If spending money brings you fulfillment, then by all means go for it.
It seems to me, the trip is just do ' round the world trip in luxury' kinda thing. The emphasis on reconnecting with ppl which u mentioned will be more rewarding as in the end, it is the experience that brings fulfillment & blisfulness to both of you.
What was your bucket list b4 this " round the trip" thingy?
At the end of the trip, all the memories might be jz merged together and the little unexpected happenings that will bring back the smiles.
The only thing I see there that you have in common with one of my unchecked list is the compulsory mandatory gold standard proven MUST DO: go see liverpool play.
