Middle East:

1. Turkey - this will be likely via one of our journey legs to Europe. I want to visit the Istanbul Turkish Airways (part of the Star Alliance network) lounge again. Then, do the usual hot air balloon, Turkish baths, Salt lake & formation, bazaar
2. Dubai - a good place for me to use up my USD, and also to see what a modern, progressive Muslim country can do that Malaysia couldn't.

Istanbul.is actually in europe. 😃 but yeah, Turkey has many interesting places. Istanbul alone is worth a few days to explore. But nowadys be watchful.of beggars and pickpockets.

Dubai..as one poster.mentioned is over rated. Unless u love bling bling shopping. Modern and progtessive? For tourists yes. But also absolute monarchy, no democracy, citizens can only be of one race and financial.backing by its richer big brother Abu Dhabi (who defacto rule the place). We cant emulate that.

If you want to really see the middle east esp Arab culture and history go to Jordan, Oman or even Saudi (now open for tourist).

One of my most memorable dining experience was at a wadi oasis in the middle of a desert in Jordan. There is something spiritually beautiful about a desert.

Im guessing Dubai is just a short layover, so I guess its ok.

But since you are going there, u should cross to Abu Dhabi. Maybe this place suit your budget.

I’m not sure about that bro. There are some real heavy hitters here in /k… heavy hitting but humble and keeping a low profile one and all. I wouldn’t dare to count myself as belonging to that rarefied club with that which my wife and I have.

It’s enough for the two of us to enjoy life and then some, and that’s good enough for us.

And, as ry8128 mentioned in an earlier reply, we haven’t even considered the self proclaimed richest /k of them all yet….

So humble..

U the heaviest hitter here la..

Anyway, this travel plans are well and good.

But what are u going to do after that?

You plan to retire early in 50s, thats a lot time in retirement. Whats ur plan?

This maybe helpful..talking about the stages of retirement.

As for me, I will work for another 5 years or so. Then I plan to work part time in the same industry, probably as a consultant or non exec director. Maybe till mid 60s or longer.

Well, we’ll be doing quite a fair bit of traveling during those 6 or so months off work… definitely a lot of domestic travel especially to scout out post post retirement homes in Tasmania. She Who Must Be Obeyed has quite set her sights on a final retirement in Tassie….

Tasmania?

Isnt that like a very boring place with bad flight connections?
