His living condition - 400 sqft room with 24/7 fan, a 4" single foam mattress, large cage and a large box with mat that he like sleeping in. I let him on my mattress when I am at home and not sleeping.
His diet - alfafa pellets, unlimited Thomas hay, unlimited water, 2 bowls and occasional treats
His health - poops are large and soft, brownish with white deposit on pee
Additional info - there's ghost ants around the house due to frequent raining and I deposit a pesticide that is organic and does not harm pets - pesso eco ant bait. Boba is disinterested of it.
So it started around 2 weeks ago which I noticed he keeps shaking his paws in a "shoo" motion and biting his paws alot. I noticed the tip of paws became hard and suspect mites as we are getting mysterious bumps all over my body. Brought to the vet and found mites. Had a shot of avermectin.
He seems weak the day after the shot but recovered well the next day, resuming his usual habit of exploring around the house. I did not let him onto my bed anymore since he has mites and vacuum his mat and cleaned his cage daily.
Past Saturday is the day for his second injection. Vet noticed his weight dropped from 500g to 380g, so applied a topical rub instead and remind us to feed him more so I bought additional alfafa hay for him to feed. As usual he's less active and rest more after except when feeding him treats and pellets. Fed him a dose of dewormer 0.08cc
Sunday Boba is the same but noticed poop pellets became smaller in size but amount is still normal, which is alot and pees less frequently. Fed him a dose of dewormer 0.08cc
Monday morning before going to work, checked on him, more active than Sunday and eating well as well as drinking more. Monday evening came back home from work found he's dead and not responsive. Picked him up and pee just flow out of his behind. I keep giving him soft chest pushes and warming his ears with my palm. However Boba is still unresponsive, no flinching, no nose twitching, pupils not responding to light source and limp body. Been with him for 3 hours before deciding to bury him in the garden as it was midnight already.
Informed vet and other and the responses I got.
Vet - possible toxicity
Rabbitry - rabbit too weak to take topical rub + dewormer (0.08cc fed from mouth)
My suspects - ant bite causing arrest and shock, infection from wound caused by itching due to mites, suffocation due to ingestion of object.
I investigated the surroundings and my findings - Boba died laying on his side with all fours outwards beside the cage and water sources, with abit of torn on the mat, none found on other places. Fresh wet brown pee near his unlimited hay stock, water bowls barely touched, window slightly open with blackout curtain partially covering it, fan still spinning, slightly stuffy, poop pellets are small and hard but large in numbers.
Findings upon inspection of body - eyes open, limbs are soft and limp, behind is wet on the poop hole with no visible coloration, flaky paws and seems cracking but no open wound, blood, blood clots and no pus. Stomach feels squishy, ears are cold to touch, hardened patch of skin near the eye and mouth area, loss of hair on paws, tips of ear is crumpled and very hard like dried paper after wet. Found patches of scabs along the inside of ear. No diarrhea found.
I deduced it's sudden death but unable to pinpoint ant root causes.
Attached are some of the pictures I have. And some videos
