As a reader, I'm really sad when I saw one by one bookstores in Malaysia are closing down.

Most of the Malaysians are not reading for pleasure.

It's different situation in western countries such as US and UK. Bookstores over there are thriving and a lot of people actually are reading for pleasure.

Same goes to their library. They have latest book collections and a lot of low income citizen over there makes full use of the library.

While in Malaysia, our library is like a dead place. Most people that come to the library just to do assignment or study instead of borrowing books. If you look at our local library collections, it's so outdated and lack of book collections.

Disagree with US. Bookstores there been closing down for years. Peaked around 2004-2006. I remember my first trip there, and Borders and Barnes and Nobles were everywhere. I maxed out my luggage at 54kgs buying books that weren't in Malaysia at that time.

Library, I agree. Ours suck.

Yes, I do agree with you a lot of the bookstores in US are closing.

But when it comes to latest book that available in their bookstores, they are the best.

But in our country, if I want to buy latest books, I have to drive to KLCC Kinokuniya or alternatively ordered from Amazon Singapore.

Tsutaya bookstore, MPH, Populars are so lousy. I'm a big fan of fiction books.

Youtubers, booktok influencers are mostly from US, UK or other western countries. But Malaysia? KRIK KRIK KRIK KRIK.
