Hi all,

Saw a group of people playing at tennis courts and badminton halls, feel its less aggressive and fun.
Are there any existing pickleball players here?
I would like to find out more about pickleball and try playing.

Depends on session.
I just came back from watching pickleball at SS15.
I'd say 70% young fellas.

Trending sport in Malaysia, by no means it's less aggressive, if you haven't met those who cover the net/kitchen area well.

But no doubt it's friendly for elderly who are familiar with racquet sports where they can make use of their footwork and hand/eye coordination from tennis, ping pong.

I've played once and found myself struggling with reach as I'm too used to the length of a badminton racket compared to the short paddle. But no doubt very fun and friendly picklets, regardless of age.

I find it fun and addictive. I can play 3-4 times a week.
However there are those who play the game aggressively, as though they are playing tennis aka bangers.

Best way is to download Reclub app, then look for hosted sessions there.

Currently popular venues is like NZX ara damansara, Dink It Kota Kemuning, PSC/KLGCC Hartamas, Satellite PJ, PickleJam, etc.
Can check rates and availability using AFA app.

If you wanna to try playing, can always look for Beginner friendly sessions on Reclub. Usually the hosts provide paddles for rent at RM5.
Best to not buy a paddle before you try playing a few sessions.

RM60/hr is quite expensive..

user posted image

IIRC most of the dewan komuniti are about RM20-25/hr.
But you're right, some of the badminton courts are too near next to each other, so quite dangerous to play with people with bad footwork.
A lot of tennis courts are slowly converting to Pickleball courts..

Juciao can spin just fine.. Just need the right technique..
Personally I use a 6.0 DBDI, I think the spin is too much. My returns spins before I even learn to return straight. lol

6.0, Ronbus, Vatic Pro are all decent, not too pricey paddles which I heard of. Can also search for Pickln.
Not sure about Ascend though. Haven't heard so much of it in Pickleball reddit+discord.

Luzz is a USA brand.. but probably made in china, like most paddles..

Luxx is one of Selkirk's range for high end paddles. You're right, mahal giler.. If you play hard and spin a lot, probably about 3 months, paddle need to be replaced liao..

My next Luzz paddle is one of these:

You want it to go up or down? 😁
DUPR is very easy to manipulate, so its not very dependable.
Noobs want to climb up quickly, buayas wanna bring it down so they can play in lower rating tournaments for easy win.

Good gauge also la, just that in the short run it won't be accurate. Lucky win game then go up already.

Even now I rank myself 2.00 - 2.25 range.

Ini confirm buaya..
2.0 is barely know anything about PB...

DUPR is inaccurate because, I started playing using DUPR at an event..
Won 8 out of 9 games, My DUPR was at 3.6 already.
Then I tried to find DUPR newbies to play and purposely lose 2 games to them.. It went down to 3.49.

as long as you can play full game, can dink, can serve, can return shots, occasionally can win, know the rules, then can be considered a 2.5 liao.

Just don't be like some noobs who go self rate themselves as 4.5 - 5.0 and joined competitive sessions, end up the host asked them to leave after 1 game.

Most important is the enjoy pickleball for the workout and company.

Interesting take.

I know those but my more experienced friend rated me as 2.0 - 2.2 so OK lor.

And yes indeed, I play it for the fun - enjoy the game and the company.
