Both have pros and cons

The main reason is aw1000 very unstable back then even used the latest sopek firmware it keep randomly dropped connection until I reboot it will just no network at all
And also will random reboot itself
*

Thanks for the thread and sharing by all.

My 3rd fiber contract ended. And i took the advice of some otais here albeit did my own research too

Sim prepaid yes5g
Modem gteniq
Coverage good
Building condo

I havent been getting good signal. Its always yellow. And when i went into the modem, it seems to intermittent 5G band. Anyway i can lock the band or i have to find out yes using which band? Or i need better antennas to pull 5G. I have been experimenting in between rooms. Living room is the worst

For condo if you staying high floors, 5G is almost guaranteed to be weak. That's because the antenna used by telcos are usually pointing slightly downwards.

You can use an antenna but you need to point it right and usually need to install it outdoor.

And no matter what you do, just remember that 5G is still wireless and it can never be as stable and consistent as fiber.

I’ve been using the Nighthawk M6 Pro for a while now, and it’s been solid. It’s super fast, handles multiple devices without any issues, and works great for both home and when I’m on the go. I didn’t want anything too complicated, and this one was easy to set up and just does the job. It might be a bit pricey compared to some others, but for me, the reliability has been worth it.

I'm trying to use U Mobile 5G (not their home plan) at a condo in JB. I have direct line of sight to the cell tower (I highly suspect that it's a repeater tower; let me know how to differentiate one).

Up till 2 weeks ago, I was able to get 200-300Mbps on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, however now it's barely getting 2-3Mbps regardless of telco (DNB). CelcomDigi 4G can get about 20-30Mbps whereas U Mobile is only 4-5Mbps.

TL;DR - 4G faster than 5G, despite direct line of sight from cell tower.

In this case, will any lock cell modems will be beneficial for me?

Update: U Mobile 5G 1.6Mbps, Digi 5G 150Mbps
Same phone, same location, tested concurrently. I wonder why

I can tell you.. Yes 5G in x50-5G, and U home 5G in their shit ZTE modem, same location tested back to back, Yes 3 speed test all 50mbps with ping over 50. U Home average ping 20 and speed 280mbps with 3 tests.

Both locked on 5G. So despite on DNB network , there’s difference.

with official warranty
tplink x50 5g
tplink nx510v (beware telco set)
tplink nx200

without official warranty, so buy at your own risk
zyxel nr5103e with three logo
olax g5018
gteniq cp570 iq02x55
nokia fastmile 3
arcadyan aw1000 with qwrt firmware
zyxel nr5103e v2
zlt x25 pro

big boys like zte and huawei hard to differentiate from exterior look whether it is telco set or not, some with and some without telco logo printed on outside.

for normal user, i recommend tplink if u don't want to have risk.

if you want to go with risk, olax g5018 is a good choice due to its user friendly interface. gteniq cp570 also similar, you can go youtube watch its setting first before making decision.

if u want endless setting to play with, arcadyan aw1000 with qwrt firmware will be your choice.

if u want cheap, nokia fastmile 3. (if you are sure your area with good 5G signal because it can't lock band)

remember always get mediatek t750/t830, qualcomm x55/x62/x65/ (or above) 5g chipset based modem.
also beware don't fall into seller's trap like:
1. locked telco set
2. mention qualcomm chipset (for wifi only) without mention unisoc 5g modem chipset.

@BOTAK_WAI Thank you very much for your detail update of the info. Very useful for me. For the tp link x50 5g, I think I have read some thread saying that are some issues of setting or connection ? But I am not able to find them now. Anyway, thanks again.

if u really care about the settings, i really recommend the olax g5018, the interface really good.

gteniq feel a bit "cheap"

arcadyan aw1000 with qwrt firmware settings too much for normal user.

there is also a good 5g modem router from taobao, but quite pricey.
Fiberhome LG6851F (2nd gen with wifi7)

no matter what kind of 5g modem router, i always recommend to turn off the built in wifi, and connect to another strong wifi router (access point mode). good wifi with fem generate quite a lot of heat.
