I bought a nr5103e, using with umobile sim card on 5g. Been happily using, until 3 days ago it suddenly stop.

The led on the router shows its connected to internet. Even when login to the control panel, however any of the device connected would not able to ping.

Tried reset and set the apn still the same. Took out the sim card and put in phone. 5g works.
Put maxis sim card in the router, it works.
It just doesnt work with u mobile sim card that it used to work.

Am already at lost. Any expert can advise? Seller suggest to change imei but google fail me on how to change.

U98 plan was not intended for modem use...

Consider U Home 5G
Cheaper even, RM68

It only started 3 days ago right? Obviously U Mobile have started blacklisting the Zyxel NR5103 modem IMEI range for all its mobile plans (except for the U Home 5G) to avoid its users from using the postpaid/prepaid mobile only plans inside a dedicated modem.

The Zyxel modem is now among the most popular model used everywhere in Malaysia. Not surprised they finally banned its IMEI for all its mobile only plans.

Bad news is that IMEI is non configurable for your Zyxel model as its firmware not open source based. The only options you have now is:

Either you subscribe to a data only broadband plan like U Home 5G/Yes Flexi 5G Broadband plan, or you'll need to change your modem which allows IMEI modification(if you want to keep your U98 plan but no guarantee the ISP will deploy further prevention methods in future).

For some suggestions, the Arcadyan & Olax branded modems can do IMEI modifications but they don't perform as well as the Zyxel because it's not tested well or supported by the local ISPs.

very likely your IMEI is blacklisted by U-Mobile. Not sure if this modem can change IMEI or not

They don't want their mobile plans to get overlapped and mixed up with their 5G home broadband plans.

Some of their subscribers have used their main Postpaid plans to access cheaper supp lines to use in their phones instead.
Later their marketshare will be affected allowing mobile plans to compete directly against home broadband plans.

The Zyxel model which TS said he is using comes with stock firmware. It is not possible to change its IMEI.

Have you tried your UMobile U98 SIM in a 5G phone?
If it works and you can access the internet means your U98 mobile plan account is not barred.

Have you tried another telco SIM with 5G access in your modem?
If you can access the internet after swapping the SIM card of another 5G based telco in your modem means your modem is fine.

Lastly before you throw away your modem, since U Home 5G is contract free, why not go get one and try it in your modem?
If it works confirmed it's your U98 Mobile plan SIM that has blocked by U Mobile to be used in a modem!

*Just for precaution sometimes U Mobile 5G service can have downtime, do repeat a 2-3 times before confirming.

A few days back there has been a slew of complaints from people using their postpaid U Mobile U98 in modem suddenly not being able to surf despite being connected. Check out U Mobile's FB page. When brought up to them they simply say U98 is not meant to be used in modems. Not sure if problem still around

aiyah..... i should have read this earlier.

2 days ago, just ported a spare prepaid sim to umobile P38 to be used on my nr5103e.
was using yes5g broadband rm58 the last few months. but sometimes the browsing can be patchy.(i'm in subang jaya, near a school so its quite full-bar)
so i thought wanted to try U38 that has been upgraded to 120GB.

too bad, now the sim works in phone. but when placed in the nr5103e modem, wifi-clients shows 'no internet'.

Looks like have to continue using yes broadband rm58/month... or has anyone tried the yes postpaid rm35(now upgraded to 150GB) with 5g modem(such as the nr5103e) ?
any advice appreciated.

I confirmed had problems with U38 share plan with NR5103e.
Cancelled the U38 plan, subscribed the UHome 5G RM68. It just worked straight away.

I guess the other way is to get a phone hotspot 5G or use a 5G router that can bypass this block.

NR5G-NSA currently. B28 4G + n78 5G
NR5G-SA probably in the future still ongoing.

You can't find 5G network anymore then roam around your house and see where you get good signal.
I had to move my 5G router to another room after 1.5 months having it in a specific location. Or not get a external antenna as well maybe?

The reason is because this modem is highly popular now. Sold out on almost all the online stores.

All the Malaysian telcos have blocked this model's IMEI for all their mobile plans except whitelisting them for their Home 5G data-only plans.

They will also block the Deco X50-5G soon unless your modem can do IMEI spoofing.

You should not have any problem using it with U Mobile/Yes/CelcomDiGi 5G Home Broadband SIM-only plans.

All the other mobile plans including UNLIMITED hotpot ones meant for only to be used on 5G phones will result in no network.

Yes - i have a feeling the Deco X50-5G would be added to the black list soon also ...

Hopefully by that time - the home 5g broadband packages become even more competitive ...

blacklist or not depend on telcos
'no service' , 'invalid sim card' or connected but no internet :- pick one

YTLC just very happy rclxm9.gif you put unlimited plan sim card with modem. mod or not dosen't matter.

These modems without the ability to modify IMEIs are more favoring to telcos/ISPs because they're meant to be used as they are - data-only modems.

It satisfies their ruling of being data only and cannot be abused with cheap plans meant only for use in phones without hotspot quotas.

I've got a weird thing happening with my U Home 5G.

I use this sim card as a second sim on my S24 Ultra. I've used it ever since I got my phone which was last month. For the past 2 weeks, I've realised whenever it connects to 5G network I'll subsequently lose all mobile data. It won't even reconnect to 4G. This can only be rectified if I cycle airplane mode. After that same thing happens. As soon as I get a 5G signal, I lose all mobile data signal again.

Initially I thought this could be my phone problem as it was updated recently. But I've tried with another Umobile and YES sim card and there wasn't this problem at all. It held on to 5G for as long as I had the card in there.

I even went to the extent of getting the U Home 5G sim replaced. But the problem persisted. I even asked CS about it and they kept saying it's my phone problem. But I've tried other sims and this didn't happen to those cards.

Anyone has any clue what's going on/fixes?

UMobile blacklists all their mobile plans for this modem and whitelists the modem only for their Home 5G Broadband plans to avoid people cross using them in unwanted devices?

They don't want people to use cheap mobile plans meant for phones in modem and don't want people to use cheap unlimited home broadband SIMS in phones.

U Mobile requires mandatory APN key-in to work unlike the other operators. Have you manually specify UMobile APN for your second SIM slot and save its settings?

UMobile APN is my3g

Likely the problem with power supply. May be the power adapter you using for the modem not adequate. Please refer back to modem's user manual for exact power the modem need.

I have 3 umobile postpaids for phone and a home5g in b618 modem.

Then when umobile intro this family plan I thought good la all consolidate in 1 account and I save abit on monthly fees. So I just did that. Cancelled home5g then bring home an extra sim for use in b618.

Kanasai no internet. Google abit and found this thread. Pkhkc hailat rupa2nya mobile plan cannot use in modem. So no choice nasi sudah jadi bubur. for now I kasi masuk into a china modded modem to spoof it as a mobile and use.

Got this modem back in 2020 MCO time so I can use my phone mobile data for work at home those days. Only shitty is that this modem punya LTE speed is only capable up to 20+Mbps when b618 can pull up to 80mbps with the same SIM card last time.
